I had blue calipers before I painted them red. Blue is good, but red stands out WAY more. And more people like that. So do I.
I used engine enamal from discount auto parts for $3.75 a can. So far it's holding up nicely.
I've also had that enamel in my engine for about 5 months now and it still looks as good as the day I did it.
