Maxima help

Hi guys im new here and im looking for some advice.

I have a 1996 Maxima 3L V6 it has a few problems which im hoping you fellas can help me with.

First, it idles high most of the time, as in 2000 RPM kind of high. it sucks the fuel and it has a miss in it under load, its kind of like a flat spot or something and it is very jerky. I have to have the over dive turned off when im driving around town because it is just too jerky to drive. on the open road it is fine till i have to overtake a car or go up a hill then it comes back again. The high idle does come back down every now and then and when it does the motor does run a lot smoother.

There is also problems with the dash which is not a major problem but it would be good to know if it can be fixed as well. On the dash fan (heater fan) it only works on number 4 and the window wipers do not work on intermission they only work on normal or full speed. I have gone to the wreckers and got a new fan switch as well as a new window wiper arm but this did not fix the problem.

any help on this would be much appreciated

Lots of possibilities for the high idle. The the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) may be bad or needs to be adjusted.

The engine being jerky may be a bad ignition coil. Is the check engine light on?

The the heater fan problem is a bad blower motor resistor. It is under the dash behind the glove box. When you go to the parts store, there are 2 kinds. You need the one for the manual controls. You do not have the auto climate controls.

Here is a link to the service manual. Add it to your bookmarks. Go in the index (file name IDX.pdf) and look up TPS.
