White Maxima Pinstripe Removal

I need to talk to anyone with a White Maxima who has removed their pinstripe.

My logic is that because the car is white, and white fades the least, there will not be a visible mark from the pinstripe after a good waxing.

I did a search for "White Pinstripe" and can't find much. So don't yell at me about this.

Please post your experiences.

I know someone posted this a few days ago.

That was me. I never got a good answer because I didn't ask the right question.

Anyone with a white Maxima, please reply.

Thanks,
IanS

When I had my 95 White SE, I just pealed off the stripe (in 2000) and I couldn't see any fade marks. I didn't use a hairdryer it just came right off and I used soap and water to remove the residue. Just peel about an inch off of the back and see if there is any fade.

Laugh. Soon I won't either.

I'm going to do this the first day of warm weather.

I may just get impatient and go at it with the heat gun in a couple of weeks when I paint my calipers.

But don't worry, they'll be red.

if it turns out bad and for some odd reason you can see where they used to be, you can always have stipes put back on for not much money.

I wouldn't use a heat gun to remove the stripes as you run the risk of messing up your paint. I haven't yet removed mine from the Maxima, but I did remove them from my RX300 with a hair dryer. As long as you heat it up, the goo comes right off with the stripes.

Re: White Maxima Pinstripe Removal

I got the factory racing stripe mod on my 95 SE pearl white
It adds 5 HP only, unlike to Type-R badge that adds 15 HP!!!

I'll leave mine on until it starts to peel. I figure at the rate I wash and max my Max, the high pressure water nozzle will peel it off soon! Or the orbital buffer will.

Re: Re: White Maxima Pinstripe Removal

hehe, i dug this one up.

anyways...i tried to take my pin stripes with hair drier last week and the stripe wouldn't even look like it was getting loose...i stood there for maybe 10-15min using the drier on the very tip, and NOTHING!!!

so i got ****ed and went and shaved my trunk, and that was much much easier....I too have a pearl white maxima...is it because we have 3 coats of paint...y its so much harder to take stripes off????

thanks

I have a pretty faded '96 Ruby Pearl Max. I peeled off the stripes 3 months ago and the day after I did it you could not tell there were ever there. It just takes time, fingernails, a blow dryer, and goo-gone or a bug & tar remover. Trust me it won't be faded underneath, especailly on a white car.

I have a white 99 max, and removed the pinstripes last weekend. I posted, but all I got were "search" replys to my message No fading, thankfully, and those pinstripes were on there a full 3 years, but I still have adhesive on my passenger's side that goo gone and a hair dryer won't cut, so I'm slowly fingernail scraping it off, but it took 3 hours to get all the goo off the driver's side that way...

Don't worry about fading, the car looks 100% better without those gay-looking (mine were titanium se-l colored) pinstripes.

Some pinstripes are stickers some are paint. stickers you can peel off but the paint needs to be buffed and sanded and compunded out. If your peeling and peeling and not going anywhere then most likely its paint like mines.

I spoke to a local Body Shop and they suggested i go to the local auto Body Supply and buy this:

It's just a round disc made out of an eraser-like material. Cost me $20 however...don't know if it's worth it to ya.

Using this it took me 5 minutes to remove my pinstripe. No fading/marks whatsoever.

The good news is this tool is also great at getting tar off the car from the track!

thanks, ill look into that...i really think they are painted because standing there for that long with hair drier set on HIGH/HOT at that one corner means something...plus i tried using finger nail...and my nail just keep sliding as if the stripe wasn't on the car but part of body.

thanks.

Mine were very easy to at least feel with a fingernail.

I'm pretty sure yours are painted.
