Mechanic did exactly what you guys said!!

I went to get an alignment done after putting on a new set of tires (Dunlop SP Sport A2 215/55/16). I told the guy I wanted a 2-wheel thrust alignment and he freaked he said "I've been doing alignments for years I know how to do them" He told me you need I need a 4 wheel alignment to do it correctly. I argued with him and he said Ok ill do a 2 wheel but I cant guarantee it will drive straight. Can you believe these jurk offs!!

i just spoke to one of my female friends last night on the phone about mechanic's and their rip off's..

they told her she needed a new camber.. and it would cost $180 i told her they were full of it.. they also told her that the Air filter was dirty and it would cost $15 to change amoung other things they told her.. i told her we would do them together then i pointed her to the TSB site with all the info about stuff wrong with her car..

i also told her about the story about someone on this board who had a CAI and jiffy lube told him his filter was dirty.. and he told them if they could find it.. they could change it.. needless to say the mechanic came back and couldn't find the filter

It's just a terminology issue. He has to shoot all 4 wheels but only can make adjustments to the front. So some mechanics still call them 4 wheel alignments.

Just make sure you only pay about 50 bucks and let the mechanic do his thing.

Yeah most mechanics are pieces of ****. I went in once to get a tranny flush and he came out and told me that my air filter was dirty. So I said what filter are you talking about to see if he really knew where the filter was and he said, well we opened you airbox and the panel filter was filthy. So I told him that I would never be bringing my car back to him again and he just stood there like he had no idea what I was talking about. Then when he came back leter he said oh I must have been thinking of another car the car next to yours had a dirty filter. Thats why I try to do everything myself now. Take Care

Maybe I am reading this wrong. So you had a dirty air filter is told you it was dirty and you did not want to go back to him? I dont get it.

The guy who sold me the car was the one who went to the mechanics for me. (my conversation with the mechanic was over the phone) He told me the new tires are incredible. He said there was a salesman in the store at the time (from Bridgestone or Pirelli I think he said) and even this guy conceded that Dunlop SP Sport A2 are definitely the best tires in its class....by far!!

Hey Toffy - Not to change the subject, but how do you like those Dunlop Sport A2s?? I just put those on my Maxima too...seem to handle great so far. They might be give a little rougher ride though - still trying to figure that out (from the Eagle RSAs that were on before)

I won't go to any oil change place anymore. I've had 2x they didn't latch the air filter back down. I could hear a sucking sound when I hit the gas (totally bypassing the air filter)...nice... They overinflated my tires to 45 PSI once. They overfilled my oil once. 2 people I know blew engines after an oil change (1 had wrong filter on and oil leaked out, other had no oil even put back in car). These are the dumbest people working there. The maxima is a piece of cake to change the oil on...you don't even have to jack the car up.

Dunlop Sport A2

So far so good. There is a massive snowfall happening today (in Toronto) and I'll let you know how it handles tommorrow. From what I can tell though...if these tires last as long as quoted (420 treadware rating) these things are the bomb!!

I'll chip in...

Friend of mine goes to Jiffy Lube to get an oil change on his 97 Nissan Pickup. All goes well, no air filter scams. Well, about 1/2 mile down the road, the oil light comes on. Not good. He immediately pulls over and opens the hood. There is oil everywhere. I mean the entire engine compartment is coated in oil.

Anyway, they put on a filter that was missing the gasket and all the oil leaked out. In the truck, that means it ran right onto a belt and got flung everywhere.

Jiffy Lube paid for the clean up and gave him a bunch of free changes (which he doesnt want now anyway). So far, there seems to have been no damage to the engine.

How many miles ago was that you think? Just wondering if it has been fine for a while since it happened or what.
