Feel guilty to say this but... worth an upgrade?

I had my 99 Max for just about a year now. Got everything fixed, lowered, new paint job, new wheels & even got a sound system & exhaust for it. I'm pretty much set. Until I was browsing around on craigslist one day.

This is what I found: http://inlandempire.craigslist.org/cto/5716595006.html

The add seems pretty solid and it's affordable for me right now too. It's also a 6 speed??? Aw man. What do you guys think about it? (I probably won't sell my car for this but I figured it'll be a fun thread) (Who knows, you guys might convince me if it's a good deal lol)

The 1st question that popped into my mind once I read the ad was, "why would an '03 with 156000 miles need to be completely rebuilt ... and not a performance rebuild either ... what broke and why?"

It also looks like a dyi rebuild.

Which might be excellent, but probably not.

If the rebuild went well, he would drive the car to get his moneys worth.

But he is selling instead. Draw your own conclusions.

Also keep in mind that the 4th gen has a better repair and quality record than the generation you are considering.

Honestly If u already did the stuff u did to your 99, keep the 4th gen.. The body just looks so much better.. The 5th gen is nice.. but meh can't beat the 4th gen. Maybe u can buy it as a 2nd car if you could do that? And to be honest, He built the engine way too early lol, 156k miles? well i mean its gonna last a long time though now thats for sure..

the only 5th gen i ever considered was the 00-01. one has a 3.0 with an oovi and the other is the anniversary edition which i wanted in white and still do for so long. jvg makes a good point, rebuild and then sell it? why? should be good for another 156,00 and run strong? i don't trust anyone on craigslist, never have and never will. your 4th gen is fresh and fixed, go with the flow bro, you know?

Could have been rebuilt due to oil burning issues. But alot of people on craigslist flip cars.

I mean I got mine off craigslist and got a great buy, you just have to find the right person who is selling it and when to know "its too good to be true" kind of people who are selling it to get rid of it from neglect and abuse to the vehicle, if someone really took care of it and is honestly selling it.. then you got your lucky buy. Though these lucky buys don't last long..

you have to be on the constant look-out and refreshing the page for new sales to pop up every 5hrs if you want to find it before anyone else. Someone rebuilding an engine so early is a question though.. only if you can find the answers. Did it seize up? ran on no oil? Burned the oil and eventually ran out? Or just rebuild the engine just for the heck of it? but to me that would make no sense at all to rebuild an engine that has not seized. Only way it would make sense if something happened to the engine and was non-operational and only option was to rebuild the engine to make it running again due to seize.

but if you rebuild an engine..I would of kept the car, not sell it. Since its got a rebuild its gonna last another 150k+ miles for sure. get the money's worth.

Not too suprised at the responses here. If your really interested in the car then at least call him and ask why it was rebuilt and who rebuilt it. If it was done correctly it would be really nice to have these new parts already replaced, especially the tensioner.
