Recommendations for diagnostic tool.

What kind of diagnostic reader should I go for with a tight budget? something under 150. anyone have any recommendations or experience with cheaper readers? The real question I guess is would I ever need one for an extensive amount time?

I've been using one of these Harbor Freight $45 scanners for about 7 years. I'm starting to see them at WalMart for less. Nothing fancy.. It does the job.

I've bought a few (including a couple for my kids) that look just like that on Amazon, the last being about $17. They only tell you the codes, but they've always worked fine for me.

The best diagnostic tool you can get is this forum...

Google search OBD II Bluetooth scanner; I got the cheapest one I could find; prices vary for essentially the same thing. $15-20
I use the free Torque app on my smartphone to read/reset the codes.
