Does Nissan still issue recalls on 4th gen Maximas?

I'm curious because I'd bet that my 99 has a Takata airbag. It's possible that the airbag design pre-dates the major recalls, but is Nissan even checking anymore?

Does the NHTSA have a cutoff for vehicle recalls? Like 15 years? Obviously they wouldn't be issuing recalls on a Duesenberg from the 1930's - what is the timespan during which cars are checked for safety issues?

Curious if anyone has any insight on this!

Edit: Partially answering my own question

From: https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/recalls/recallprocess.cfm

Are there any limitations on my right to have a recalled vehicle remedied at no charge?

Yes. There is a limitation based on the age of the vehicle. In order to be eligible for a free remedy, the vehicle cannot be more than 10 years old on the date the defect or noncompliance is determined. Under the law, the age of the vehicle is calculated from the date of sale to the first purchaser. For example, if a defect is found in 2003 and a recall ordered, manufacturers are required to make the correction available at no charge only for vehicles purchased new in 1994 through 2003. However, consumers should realize that even though manufacturers are not obligated to remedy safety defects in older cars, a safety problem might still exist. If you receive notification of a defect on a vehicle older than 10 years, take the responsibility to have your car repaired at your own expense – and eliminate unnecessary safety risks.

I thought it was 15 years, but the faq you posted from the nhtsa says 10. I had the 15 year number in my head because when you look up recalls based on a vehicle, it only will go back 15 years.

http://www.nissanusa.com/recalls-vin#/

https://vinrcl.safercar.gov/vin/

Enter the VIN of your car.

the Nissan site will only retell you about recalls that were not done on your car, not recalls that were created.

The below link will search for recalls based on make and model, not the VIN and will go back more than 15 years.
