scary orange service light is ON $#$%
scary orange service light is ON $#$%
my max has been steadily dripping oil and i've had the pan's seal checked and the oil pressure sending unit replaced- still...but for the last week it has grown from a quarter sized spot to about a fist and on the highway tonight the nasty orange service engine light came on as I was driving and stayed on. Gonna look at it in the morning, but does anybody have a clue or previous experience what the f--- is going on?

Do a search for "ECU" or "ECU codes" or "ECU reset"
You should also try to isolate the source of the leak - get your car on ramps or jackstands & slide under to have a look.

Depending on your model year, you may be able to pull the codes from the ECU yourself to get an idea what the problem is. It may be totally unrelated to the oil leak.

i agree.. get under there and check it out!

Why would you need to do a search?
Isn't there a sticky up top called "ECU Diagnostic (Check Engine Light) Trouble Codes"?
Yep! There is!

-you're splitting hairs, don't you think?
"search" (wherever) as a first effort, as opposed to "asking" the widely covered question - was the jist of it.
I'm on your side here, cheeky-clee!
Can you see under the car where the leak is originating from? I mean so you could tell if it was not coming from on spot in particular other than the pan. Just trying to think of a way to pin point it to one location.

well- the code came back transmission...but mech said code did NOT isolate the problem to the transmission or the electrical system in charge of the tranny- SO, I am guessing that the leak I had might be from the transmission...but my max would NOT start after the engine light incident...trade it in? transmission place will tell me tomorrow whether or not it is the tran or the electrics? any priors with this???
