which clutch?

Hi

I will be installing turbo soon. I'll be running at about 5-7 lbs. I was wondering if I should get a new clutch or wait for stock one to wear out.

I have read in many threads that ACT is the best ... but which ACT? There are three that I have seen

1. Street
2. Racing 4 pad
3. Racing 6 pad

I am sure the last two grab pretty hard .. will that destroy my transmission? I would rather wear out a clutch than a transmission.

Oh and if I get one where should I go?

Thanks

I'd probably stick to the ACT since so many have tried it and are happy with it. The ACTs are also about the same price.

I supply those clutches to him. They are very good clutches, just not that well known yet. But the manufacturer has been in business for about 30 years now. I'd say they were comparable to anything ACT made. They have a good road racing history, but not too many drag cars have them. However, they have been put on 600 hp Z's, and 700 hp Supras. Email me if you want more details about them.

anything with 6 puck or less will kill your tranny

i'd recommend the HDMM ( heavy duty pressure plate and modified street disc). with that turbo set up of yours. it should hold up to 420 hp.

Thanks for the recommendation dude! most of the clutches I've seen have torque rating not HP rating. Does that make any diff? I suppose it is subtle? Do you have any recommendations as to brand? Is ACT good? Is Vitek good? Others?

Also why does the number of pucks have anything to do with destroying tranny? I thought it might be more of clutch pressure plate grabbing force ... sorry I am new to the performance scene forgive the ignorant question (I have only worked with stock clutches).

It's just that usually, the fewer pucks, the harder the clutch grabs. 3 puck, 4 puck, and 6 puck clutches all grab very hard when compared to full face street clutches. On a Maxima, the transmission just can't handle it over time. Honestly, the clutches you mention are pretty comparible, and both are very good. However, if you are interested in the Vitek, I can work out a sponsorship deal with you since you're getting a turbo. I've been looking for a boosted/nitrous car to sponsor in the hopes of getting the name out more. I'd do it myself, but I have an auto. So email me at sales@ap-signworks.com if interested.

I just installed my ACT stage 1 yesterday. Its supposed to hold 362ftlbs of torque. Although it is not a puck disk, it still grabs pretty hard. It has a very strong pressure plate. Whatever you don't get a puck disk. You won't be able to drive the car on the street.

even with the turbo @ 5-7 psi, you won't overburden the street setup. No need for the race discs.
