replaced egr spacer tube, cleaned throttle body....
and now the idle is better, but jumps up to 1700 rpm and takes a while to settle down. i'm thinking about adjusting the idle tomorrow. my mechanic forgot to attach the pcv valve and the engine was smoking until he re-attached and now, big shock it's loose!! so i'm picking a new one just for the f of it with gasket and putting it on as soon as i get it. car def runs better, i'm going to drive it to work tomorrow and i'm going to start driving it a couple days a week as she's been sitting for the better part of 3 months. never good for an old girl like mine. also, does this egr vacuum switch ever need to be replaced? or does it get cleaned out when you clean out the egr system? https://www.ebay.com/itm/New-For-199...Fhl:rk:23:pf:0

The first thing that pops into my head, reading your symptom, is the coolant temperature sensor.
Taking into consideration the age of our cars, I don't think throwing a part or two at them is ever a bad thing. Regardless of a failure or not, replacing the purge valve isn't a bad idea.

i actually took it to the dealer today ( yeah, i know ) cause i wanted a nissan master tech to take a look at a car that he was familiar with. i knew the guy that looked at my car and he was pretty cool about the whole thing and only charged me for what could've easily been an hour and a half charge but charged me for only a half hour. found a split hose in back of the block and noticed the pcv valve grommet that was loose and leaking as well as a p0300 code for a multiple misfire and ran a cycle test to see if more than one cylinder was misfiring and recommended replacing all 6 coils as well as checking the gap on the new plugs because he said that it was dropping on acceleration on a road test. i kinda knew that already, so, i'm going to replace the coils eventually after i do the hose and the pcv valve grommet. hopefully those 2 items will help it run smoother and i'll check the plug gap as well.
