Camshaft position sensor change.

Have a 95 Maxima and got an error code to replace the camshaft position sensor so I Bought one from Autozone. I could also see a small oil leak from around the sensor as well I took the old one out but when I tried to install the new one it would not seat completely up against the engine.

The O ring on the old sensor is flat and I can see where the oil leak is coming from. the O ring on the new sensor is nice and round but this is what’s stopping the sensor from going in all the way.

How do I solve this problem?

Apply a little Vaseline to the O ring and try installing the sensor with a little back and forth twisting motion.

I put a little engine oil around the gasket and tried twisting the sensor while pushing REAL HARD but that dang thing REFUSES to go in.

If you've got a heat gun or a blow dryer handy carefully heat the O ring.

Remove the O ring from the sensor body and heat it up to soften it a bit. Be cautious, don't burn or melt it. Don't heat the sensor ... just the O ring.

Quickly install it back on the sensor and install the sensor in the timing cover.
