Dashcams and Android phones for CONSULT

Caveat: havent searched around much myself yet.

i want a DASHCAM in my 98 i30. I dont want it to be easily observed *** STOLEN by Space City Kush Addicts. Im imaging it mounted on the back of the rear view mirrow. This choice being driven by LYING sacks of **** at-fault Houston drivers that destroy my things, like this one color-blind architect I might mention again soon...

Who’s got a small dashcam they like? Is it 100% battery, or do you have something hard-wired for 12v at the rear view mirror ?

i also want a “removable for service, but in the car all the time” <computer> to run my NDIS (? - own it, from NZ, forget what its called) CONSULT interface. I came across an old ANDROID cell phone that would prob work (for example) - but AGAIN it has to be 100% hidden from the crackheads.

i’m thinking “in the push open/push closed drawer under the radio / above the ash tray”. Like: you open the door, then touch the ANDROID and then it pops up on its own magic moving bracket inside the drawer for viewing/using...?

appreicate hearing from idea providers. Haters by appointment only.

i don't think dashcams get stolen normally, as they are generally inexpensive items how. Any budget one should fit your needs of proof of liability, unless you need some insane clarity (reading a license plate from a far distance).

They operate off the 12v cig lighter and normally have an internal battery, which goes bad over time from sun's heat (but they still function when ignition is on normally; just wont have extended recording power after shutting off car). Some dashcams use a capacitor instead that addresses this issue.

You could tap into 12 volts in the roof console. The map lights have power all the time, so either the camera has an on/off switch or it is on all the time. There are also cameras built into a rear view mirror. Lots of options.
