1995 Maxima: What Quality Mass Air Flow Sensor Replacement?
1995 Maxima: What Quality Mass Air Flow Sensor Replacement?
A few years ago, my 1995 Maxima began sputtering and stalling when initially accelerating from a dead stop. After reading the forums on the issue, I replaced the Mass Air Flow Sensor and it fixed the problem immediately. I had gone on ebay and purchased the cheapest new one I could find (under $35 including shipping).
I’m now having the same issue again and I suspect it’s the cheap Mass Air Flow Sensor I replaced several years ago for under $35. I’ve noticed online prices are between $40 and $500. Do I need to spend big $$$ for the Nissan OEM part, or can I spend around $150 and get a replacement at place like from AutoZone (for a Duralast brand)? Any suggestions are appreciated.

Honestly ... IMO ... these days it doesn't matter if it's labelled OE or not, it's all about who actually makes the part and I don't know who's making the parts that Nissan sells in their packaging anymore.
I've got the Autozone Duralast MAF in my car right now and I occasionally go back and forth between it and my original OE unit.
The Duralast unit is performing fine and it comes with a LLT.

i know napa has a brand called altrom that they say is the same manufacturer of the original oem maf for 250.00 . limited lifetime warranty. also, a remanufactured one for half that, but only a 1 year warranty. i'd get one of those, did you do a scan for codes?
Here you go. An oem original Brand New Nissan mass air flow sensor for $90.38 from amazon. Its reboxed under Beck Arnley but its an oem nissan maf and it will say made in japan as well. I have one and its the original part # 22680-31U05 and it will also have the pink sticker as well. Beck Arnley 158-0824 Air Mass Sensor

I from experience went with cheap and crappy parts and with that being said, if it has anything to do with emissions or any electronic parts that will trip the ses light on or bad mpg and performance or the parts short out and fail earlier than they are supposed to it's most likey that the part was a poor aftermarket manufacturing or the product is just bad with bad parts. I always go with Nissan and pay the hefty price at the end it's worth it i have spent on cam ref pos sensor it's oem it's been on the vehicle since 2010. I have just replaced the maf sensor with Nissan about two years now that is properly working. It really matters how much you spend and if it's oem parts or not.

Thanks for this! Had to do aftermarket Blue Streak replacement right after cleaning MAF sensor with MAF sensor cleaner as usual, but suddenly the resistance doubled, which I found after getting the dreaded 0100 code as the car stalled on restart in my driveway.
That's exactly what I would do.
I needed a vacuum solenoid for our cars emissions system. Cost new 80-150 dollars. Cost at junkyard, 2 for 15 dollars. Both work just fine.
Perhaps members who live in areas where road salt is used might have corrosion issues in the sensor.

Just bought the Beck Arnley MAF from Rockauto, is labeled as UNISIA JECS which is the now Hitachi owned former Joint Venture between Nissan and Bosch which made the original parts. This is actually the 2nd Beck Arnley part that I've bought that was OEM or OEM-ish. First was the Beck Arnley Throttle Position Sensor which had a Nissan box inside the Beck Arnley one.
You can fix your own stock MAF with simple soldering. Another one from a junkyard will just fail the same way if it hasn't already. I bought a couple junkyard MAF's five years ago to rebuild and ended up fixing my original one to put back in the car. I still have the spares, but so far have not needed them and just turned 305,000 miles last weekend.
