parking brake cable clip for rear caliper

Upon further review - the passenger's side caliper was missing the clip that holds the parking brake cable in place. As a result I get no parking brake action on that side.

What is the correct part number for this clip?

This clip is SMALLER than the DORMAN HW1457 clips that are used throughout the balance of the brake system: https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo...05098&jsn=2931

Thanks -

The Nissan part number is 36406-01P00, superseded by 36406-01P0A. Dealer list price is $2.58.

Either take the one off of the other side and go to an auto parts store and let them match it or go to the dealer. Ordering it on-line would probably be way more expensive with the shipping charges.

So...almost six years later: I've the replacement Nissan clip that secures the parking brake cable to the rear caliper (36406-01P0A). I'm trying to fix this issue on the rear passenger wheel, and I need help, please.

On the passenger side: there is not enough cable length between the cable's hook-end (that affixes to the caliper lever) and the end of the cable housing so as to clip the cable housing in the caliper bracket. See pictures below (apologies for the huge pics). I've tried using vise grips on the cable housing + screwdriver through through the hook-end to PULL the cable length needed through the cable housing, but without success (the cable appears to be seized inside its housing). The end of that cable housing is now so close to the cable end that it has crushed the rubber bellows into nothingness.

I've read a lot about this here on maxima.org (FSM doesn't mention required removal of two exhaust shields to service 2-to-1 cable bracket under the car, factory cables were prone to breakage, Nissan apparently discontinued the cables ~2017) and I want to know if its possible to fix this WITHOUT having to access the other side of the cable (requiring removal of the exhaust shields).

I've loosened the first attachment point for the passenger cable, removed the clip from the driver's side, and removed the interior console/brake handle. In the pics you see the handle is still secured to the cable - but there is excess cable slack sticking up from the floorboard that I cannot push any further back regardless of whether the handle is along for the ride or not (can't push a string).

The driver's side looks "normal", and the cable appears to move freely inside its housing.

Please let me know what you think of this predicament ("Can this be fixed without removing the exhaust shields?"). After writing this all out I think I know what the answer is ("jack that A32 to the sky and get after removing those shields") but I thought I'd check here first.

Thanks -

I can't imagine how you'd get to the fasteners or disconnect the long cable from the short cable without pulling the heat shields.

Thanks. I've now done all the things and I have the passenger's side cable out of the car. It is "seized". The driver's side seems OK but I'm sure it's ghost is all ready to give up.

Is there anywhere to buy the OEM cables from at this point ? All the usual places I look say "Backordered", a few "Discontinued".

The Dorman replacement cables are on clearance at rockauto: https://maxima.org/forums/4th-genera...-rockauto.html

I bought both sides. It said I bought the last Right one...we'll see whether I got hustled.

There are posts here about the Dorman cables "sucking". Anyone used them recently?

Thanks

following up:

"Verily, these sucketh". They are, however, installed and working.

The only bracket that the cables ship with that's worth half a damn is the only one that doesn't move (the one that's attaches to the caliper)...all the other brackets are wholly inadequate.

So: re-using the OEM brackets is required. HOWEVER (and you knew this was coming) the OEM brackets are not designed to be removed after they've been crimped to the cable housing and thus a time-consuming dilation and extraction of each bracket is necessary. It takes even more time once you figure out how to extract them without buggering them up. THEN you have to re-install them on the Dorman cable.

As the Dormans were the Best thing available at the time: I guess everything turned out ok BUT it's too bad the OEMs have been discontinued.

ALSO: the link for "the right one" did disappear after I made my purchase @ Rock Auto.
