fuel pump question

i replaced the fuel filter, evap sensor and still hear an occasional whine after i take it around the block and pull up to a stop, and then she stalls. no c/e light, and the car runs really good until i give it a bunch of gas and then slow to a stop or a light, then the rpms drop and she stalls. original 25 y/o fuel pump, is it time to replace? thanks

Is the whine louder than it was in the past?

Perhaps you could remove the bottom of the back seat to hear the whine better, and under which conditions it's loudest.

I've read that fuel pumps require a certain amount of amps under normal conditions, and a higher amount when the bearings start to fail.

You replaced the fuel filter because the old one might have been partly clogged. The problem remains. I'd suspect fuel pump.

I had an old 1984 Nissan pickup which would buck and stall if I went up a hill or tried to accelerate hard. I eventually found a clogged filter inside the fuel pump it's self. This was a carburated engine.
The truck ran fine after I cleaned the mesh filter in the pump.

i'm starting to suspect the maf that i got used from craig a couple of years ago, i think i'll clean it and see if the problems still exists. i think that the whine i'm hearing might also be the power steering pump going out slowly.

Does the whine noise change as you turn the steering wheel back and forth? If so, it's the power steering pump. If not, suspect fuel pump.

the reservoir is full of fluid, doesn't mean the pump ( original 25y/o pump ) isn't going bad,
the reason i'm steering away from the fuel pump is, i had one go bad in another car, and they whine at start up and stutter. this has power, and after i take it around the block real quick and come to a stop the car hesitates and then the idle drops and then the engine stalls. gonna clean the maf tomorrow and see if that helps, i have a brand new tps lying around somewhere, wish i knew where.

Fuel pump filter/sock could be clogged.

Hey max ride, what became of the stalling issue you were having? Was it the fuel pump that needed to be cleaned / replaced or the MAF? My 96 is behaving in a similar manner but without the whine. I drive around then when I come to a stop it sometimes stalls without a C/E light. And like you it drives good up until it stalls.

Thanks.

check for vacuum leaks, i had the boot from the resonator box torn all the way around and a couple of clamps were very rusty and loose. cleaned the maf and she runs almost perfect again with no stalling under load or after a quick run. i also had a plastic elbow that sat in the lower intake by the front replaced as it was missing. now i need to address the power steering leak.
