I need to replace the front worn out CV axles on my 1997 Maxima GLE. The car has 190K miles and the front axles were replaced once before in 2008. Of course, because the car is a GLE the tranny is automatic. I called a few local Nissan dealers to see if my new CV axles need to be with or without limited slip based on the vin code. They couldn't tell me which I needed - not even the shop foremen. I am told most 1997 Maximas came WITHOUT limited slip but no one can tell me for sure if my car is without. Also, I have the original window sticker but it doesn't say anything about limited slip under options. Can anyone tell me which my car has? Maybe no GLE models came with limited slip?

Second question: if my car has limited slip, would that be for both front axles or just one side?

 

If your car was initially sold in the US, you do not have a LSD.

 

Check vin tag on firewall, trans code:

Auto:

RE4F04A = non LSD

RE4F04V= LSD

Manual:

RS5F50A = non LSD

RS5F50V = LSD
