Well it was bound to happen after owning the car for the past 23 years. The starter began to fail making strange noises at times and not working at other times. My 17 year old son now drives the car daily so I had him help me with the repair. It's not that difficult a job and with some mechanically ability doing it yourself can save a couple of hundred dollars. I hope you enjoy the video and it helps someone out. Long live the 4th Gen Max! Take it easy -Ozz (Glen)
Just changed my 21-year-old starter with a new RockAuto one (BBB Industries 8-tooth) and after cleaning all the contacts and putting everything back in, she started right up.
i was surprised to see that the one the dealer put in 21 years ago said remanufactured on the label but I’d say I got my money’s worth out of it.
I watched a couple of YouTube videos then when I realized how simple it was, I ordered the part.
I have a brand new battery and a new alternator from last year (Boche) so I’m hoping there won’t be any electrical issues for a while now.
Biggest issue now is rusty running boards. Have put that off way too long.
