Drive Belts

I went to the dealer to get my tranny flushed and they told me that i need to replace my drive belts. He told me that there are cracks but when i looked at them i didn't see anything. My car has 50k miles and is running smooth. I don't notice any unusual noises from the drive belts. Anybody know if it is normal to replace drive belts at this mileage. I live in Chicago where there is cold winters and hot summers and i do mostly highway driving. Any other suggestions greatly appreciated.

Given the extreme temps in Chicago it's not that unusual to replace them. There is no required change interval, only inspections. It's not that big a deal to change them if they are cracked and it will save you from getting stranded in the cold somewhere if one breaks. Not having seen your car, I don't really know your situation, but it is possible they need to be changed.

yeah, changed mine at 60K too! That's normal. I would prob wait till 60K to do it. '98 is still pretty new! Don't leave it too long though. It's better to be safe than sorry.
