Suggestions on OEM shock/strut replacements

Hey all!

I've had my 99 Maxima GLE for coming up on a year. I'm the 3rd owner, it was in pretty good shape with 179k miles. Now at 187k miles.
I think I want to bring it back to being a perfect car. I've already replaced the front and rear shocks/strut assemblies with what was considered an OEM replacement, but it seems weirdly firm. It was previously outrageously floaty on the original components.

I'm looking for it to ride exactly as it did when it was new. Any suggestions as to the correct brand or part numbers? -- Same question applies to CV axles. I replaced those and now I have a vibration at 70-80mph that it didn't have before!

In order to get it to ride exactly as when new, unfortunately you will have to install all OEM replacement parts, which can be very expensive compared to close to original ride non-OEM parts. It depends on how deep your pockets are.

This is true, but most of the parts I’m trying to find are no longer made by Nissan. Unless I’m looking in the wrong spot.

i do not believe Tokicos shocks are made any more..... just like OEM , our replacement parts are becoming a memory of the past
i would suggest KYB-GR2, after a quick search they seem to be available and are considered oem quality or better

Years ago I had a mechanic replace my 99 SE-L struts with the GR2s. The made my teeth shatter with every pebble I hit. I asked him to drive it home one night when working on other things. The next day he admitted they were horrible too. He swapped them out for Monroe assemblies at his cost. Which soon became horrible two. I installed Moog assemblies, which became horrible three. Now back to all OEM everything for a SE, except the struts themselves. I used Koni STR-T (Orange). NICE AGAIN! And of course new LCAs and Sway Bar components too. Doing the struts Right Myself, cost me close to $1K, not including the LCAs and Sway Bar parts.

But I have a SE, and not a GLE.

Ill have to check with a Nissan dealer to see if I can order the right stuff from them.

i did that with tie rods about 8 months ago and only the outers are still produced. The inners are discontinued.

Not 100% positive yet, but I think I want to essentially restore mine. Stock Maxima’s of 2003 and earlier are becoming non-existant lol. I have a car that was owned by someones grandparents for about 16 years before I got it. I’m a perfectionist, so I need shocks, an idle air control valve, valve gaskets, a few dings removed, refinished alloys. Other than that, even the pearl paint still shines.

If there’s nothing acceptable there, I’ve personally had good luck with the Gabriel Ultra.
