silverstars rock

i put on the silverstars...they are very white with a slight blue...it looks the closest to HID..i put the max next to my friends is300 and the color is similar..but since i have a 95 the headlight diffracts the light weird..im thinking of swapping to yellow fog lights...i was looking at the PIAA but for fifty bucks? how good are they..any other suggestions...and now for my stupidity:

i was going to change the bulb on the interior of the door and i was having trouble pulling it out so i proceeded to use what i had in my hands...a screwdriver...i touched the screwdriver to both copper connections and the bulb went out...where is the fuse? thanks

Yeah I like my silverstars alot. They look nice. The PIAA are more expensive but usually last forever and have better quality than other cheaper kinds. As for the door check this thread ...

The second post down may be usefull where he says which one he replaced for the same idea.

if any of you have a camera, can you snap some photos of the silverstars? People on the .org who've tried it either say it's crappy or praise it, but no one has posted pics (at least, I haven't found any).

Thanks

I just got my ultra-cheapo digital camera (2 for $40+ shipped), sux in low light (expected) but I'm hoping it'll be better tomorrow.

I just got my SilverStars today. Well, actually, I made a mistake and only bought one...haha. So I'm getting another one on Monday.

I'll be sure to take pictures when I have time.

Since I only have one, it'll be convenient to compare

I second that. Will stick with my PIAA Xtreme white or Superwhite. The Silverstar is better than the stock bulb though.

If you are in the Boston area and want to compare then let me know. I got a set of the Silverstar in my trunk.

I noticed right away that they look totally different next to each other for a comparison. Thats probably the best way to take the pic to get the full idea.

I like the idea of a safe 5+ wattage upgrade.

Anyway, I compared them for a few seconds (Sylvania SilverStar vs. Cool Blue). I'm a little disappointed, because I really thought there would be a better HID look, like someone mentioned on the post above.

BUT, I only got to see them, looking at the front of the car, and at an angle, since my car was in a parking space. I didn't get to see the difference in light output yet. Meaning, I didn't get to see how much of a difference in light brightness and color from the driver's seat yet.

Hopefully, the SilverStar's hefty price tag will prove itself a valuable investment.

But, man, I have to admit, the packaging and looks of the SilverStar blub is absolutely amazing. It really has just enough (little enough, actually) of a purple tint to look slightly like an HID bulb, without taking away from overall light output.

When I find a dark area somewhere, I'll take pics of the lights.

Did some tests

Hm, I went out and did a little more studying. I took a few pics too, but they're on regular 35mm film, so the results will have to wait.

A Side Note: I was going into the dark areas of Davis, CA, and I reached a road that seemed endless and straight. I turned into one of the side streets, and I ended up being on a gravel road. I was trying to find the best environment to compare the SilverStars and the CoolBlues, but when I turned off my headlights, I got totally freaked out. It was pitch black. I could see nothing but the stars. So I left and just did the tests elsewhere.

Anyway, I compared the bulbs again, and though it takes a good eye to see, the SilverStars have a much whiter appearance than the CoolBlues. Unfortunately, their brightness seemed equal when facing the front of the car head on.

I found a dark neighborhood and borrowed someone's garage for a second. When the lights are on the wall, there is a definite difference in color. The SilverStars look much more "expensive." What I mean is...it makes the CoolBlues look really generic and bluish.

In many ways, I'm happy with these new bulbs. They're a nicer type of white, put out the same brightness (either the same, or more, but I haven't noticed), and they're made by a decent manufactuer.

For $25 a piece, it is probably not going to be the most popular bulb on the org. BUT, just as some would prefer the PIAA SW over the Cool Blues (Shing), the SilverStars aren't overpriced at all, and are just as good, if not better than any OEM wattage bulb out there. It's a great balance of visibility and color.

That's just great. Those of you who love blue and bright headlights, fine.

I prefer the "white before the tint of blue starts showing" kind of white. It just looks fits the car more properly, easier to match with other exterior white blubs, and is LEGAL.

like the Silverstars

Got 2 new Silverstars 3 weeks ago and adjusted the beams so that they were as high as I could get them without having other drivers flash me with their high beams. A few nights ago I was on a trip when I drove all night. This was my first chance to really road test the Silverstars. From a functional standpoint, seeing the road while driving, they are great. I don't really care what they look like as long as they are not bothering other drivers or the police.

At first when I saw them for $26 a piece, I thought -- hey, for just $15 more you can get yourself into a set of PIAAs. Isn't just $15 spread over the next 4 years a drop in the bucket? BUT, if the Silverstars are on par with PIAA Super Whites, no sense in paying more... Sylvania is an excellent brand *AND* they honor their warranties in favor of the customer.
