Maybe you need to balance your wheels.

Ditto. Start w/ a 4-wheel balance.

Good point - I forgot to mention this. A Hunter machine helped me discover a bent rim problem once that wasn't visually apparent. Excellent technology - comprehensive approach to wheel balancing.

i was talking to my new mechanic, and he said he just put some KYB AGX's and H&Rs on a MR2, and he said once the car got up to about 80 it would shake like what you're describing. i know this is sorta off the topic, but has anybody else had trouble going fast with AGXs and H&R? i thought they were supposed to help stabilize you at high speeds!

My guess is the problem is more likely related to the car itself or the quality of the install, not the components. . .

the car has never in any accidents, and i am running on stock 15's. The weird part is that when I jump up to a 105-110 and then slow down to 90-95 the shaking stops. Pretty clueless.

I know that the Nissan dealers use the Hunter Balancing unit. Take the car in.

well its not my A/C because it was 25 degrees F last night. How much will the nissan dealer charge me for the hunter. I am getting new and tires in couple months so I think might wait. And have those balanced.

I think he was just playin' w/ ya on the A/C comment.

Call your dealer or any tire shop for an estimate & ask if they have a Hunter machine. Prices vary regionally.

If it's only at/above 95mph & you're getting new tires soon, don't bother. Unless it's "severe" save the $ for your tire purchase.

vibration

i had the same thing happen to my max after
i got new tires. (and apparently a lot of other
forum members have had the same problem)

it turns out that it was just
a simple re-balancing. the shop who sold me
the tires only did a "static" balance, which
only put weights on the inner rims of my 17" wheels.
after determining that the vibration was not caused
by mechanical issues (i put on my old stock rims and
the shaking went away), i had a local shop do a
"dynamic" balance. that put a better distribution
of weights on the wheel. clip-on weights on the inner rim lip
and tape weights behind the spokes nearer to the centerline
of the rim.

hope your vibration/shaking problem
is as simple as this to solve.

ever been on the QEW (queen elizabeth way) in Canada. It is like a race way. if you want to flow with traffic you have to be going at least 85. Seriosly. I don't really drive that fast but I did last night cause i had the opprotunity. there are never any cops ever the highway

i thought there were no cops on the QEW...but lately, i've been seeing them gunning people. my friend actually got pulled over on the QEW for doing 136 in a 100. She has to drive all the way from buffalo to Toronto to resolve the situation. be careful out there lately...

do you think the Hunter 9700 could miss the defect a rim may have if vibrations occur at high speeds? I've had mine balanced on a 9700 about three times, each time the machine said nothing about defects and i have a nasty vibration above 70 mph, just had brand new tires put on yesterday and still the problem hasnt been solved (i now know it MUST be the rims). it didnt happen when i had the stock tires/rims on there...

I've gone to Toronto from Cleveland a number of times since I've moved here. I used to think that Canadians drove conservatively (and safely) but over the last 4-5 years... SHIET! Unless it is jammed, they should name it QEW Motor Speedway. Much of the highway is nicely paved so at least that is good.

Maybe the po po are now there because it's getting way out of hand...

me and my friend just went up to the place where i had my tires installed, and had them switch his front two with mine. driving at above 70, both of our cars vibrated. strange. so now we think its the lugnuts that are not fitting correctly...

vibration

my 65-75mph vibration was driving me crazy too!
so after 5 rebalancings, i insisted that they do
a "dynamic" balance (weights on both the inside and outside)
vs. the easier "static" balance which only put the
weights on the inside.
it could be as easy as getting them to take the
time to rebalance properly.
hopefully it's just that and not mechanical.

good luck!

I've only ever seen this in older cars. In both of those cases it started shaking around 55 and it ended up being a problem with the power steering.

Im having the exact same problem with my new (used) 95 gxe. At about 55 it startes shaking up untill about 80. if I let off the gas its perfectly smooth. Im taking it in on monday to get my cv joints checked and possibly replaced. I dont know if you guys missed it but on the first post he said it doesnt shake when decelerating. Doesnt that rule out something being wrong with the wheels?

so you have rims with the weights attached to the outside? what kind of weights did they use...and doesnt it make the rims look kinda bad this way? do you have any pictures of your wheels balanced like this with the weight showing? thanks...

Didn't read all the posts but I had a similar problem and it was the front mag that was crooked.

Mine does 2

Hi Im from Australia and I just brought a 4th Gen Maxima and I noticed the 1st day driving it back home on the freeway at about 120KPH I get a vibration. I took the car to tyre place and had all 4 wheels balanced but the problem is still there! What can it be! Will a wheel alignment fix the problem? I checked the tyre pressure all are good, but this damm vibration. I want to find out a way to see if I can get it stopped........

Bring your car to a real pro-shop and ask them to rotate the mags and see if they are not crooked. Solved my problem.

how did you rotate the tires so that you could determine which wheel was the foul wheel? i have a feeling its either my lugnuts, or one of my rear wheels...if i were to rotate them, how would i go about doing it so that i could determine whcih wheel it is? thanks...

The mechanic individually fastened the wheels on this machine that spins the tires sideways and then fixed a rod inside of the mag about 1/4" from the wall. If the distance between the rod and the inside mag changes while it's spinning, it's crooked. This is actually typical of areas where roads are not smooth and sometimes it just takes bad luck to warp a mag. I hope for you this isn't the problem because they don't give those mags away.

Hope this helps.
