Are Mevotech LCAs any good ?

Ive recently replaced struts, and then tires, on my 98 i30. The steering wheel now has to be kept pointed left to go down the road straight. I took it in for alignment and the diagnosis is “worn LCA bushings”. I do have oil leaking from UOP and RMS so no mystery there…

Whats the best complete LCA available? I know the Moog Problem Solvers were discontinued a while back, and the only Moog offering available today is the much-maligned “RK-“ line.

Rockauto’s pictures of the Mevotech CMS20460 and CMS20461 show a greasable ball joint. Has anyone any positive or negative experiences with the Mevotech units?

I guess I could instead plan to rebuild the units on the car now (maybe ES busings and Moog greasable ball joint) but Id rather do that later (after car is back on road) and have a spare set ready to go for next time…

Thanks

Are you doing the work yourself or paying for labor?

That's good to know. Mevotech looks like a good choice, lifetime warranty unlike the rest. Way simpler install.

I have only rebuilt the originals on my 99 and old 98. Last time I used ES rear bushing, Moog front bushing, and Moog ball joint. Details found in my thread:
https://maxima.org/forums/4th-genera...s-es-moog.html
I mulled it over for years which way to go. One day my cousin dropped off a hydraulic press and that was a sign. It was a headache getting matching ball joints because Moog has at least 3 styles. It turned out great in the end.

I looked at your great linked post before composing mine. My own cousin is more likely to drop off a handle of Cuervo than a hydraulic press.

Not having ready access to said press was driving my desire for complete assemblies on-hand and ready to install at removal.

I just ordered the Mevotech units, they will take a week to get here with least-expensive shipping. Ill let maxima.org knownhow it goes.

Thanks again JSutter!

I rolled the dice and installed the Moog's last week. I did not do enough research and had good memory of Moog suspension parts in the past (problem solver tie rod ends/ links etc.) and wasn't aware of the downturn. My ball joint was shot on one side and both bushings gone on other side. Explains why I could never hold an alignment. Car feels tighter with smoother steering than its had in the 10 years ive owned it, but I'm sure anything is an improvement over my originals considering their state. I haven't pushed it too hard yet as I wrecked one of the links during install and am awaiting the part. Fingers crossed how the bushings hold up. At least the job should be easier if I have to do it again.

Curious about the Mevotechs after you install.
