Re: Re: Help here!!

Ive been getting KS errors and Im ordering a new one tomorrow but my question regards timing and the JWT ECU.

I should have my JWT ECU anyday now and since a malfunctioning Knock Sensor retards timing and since the JWT ECU advances timing, what will be the result of my timing problems?

Will the ECU bypass all Knock Sensor capabilities and make the car perform if the KS wasnt even there?

thanks

Hey, I was wondering...how do the people without small hands ge tto this sensor? When I looked at the amount of stuff i would have to take off it seemed like I would be taking the whole top of the engine apart.

If you cant get to it, then you have to pull the top manifold off and it would be a *****!!! If it were me I would find a neighborhood kid, friend, relative, anything to avoid that. All it takes is a few turns and the nut is off.

I still have doubt whether I can do the job myself... the dealer is quoting me somewhere between 400 and 600!! I don't think it's worth paying that much for a 145k miles car...

i havent yet received my KS yet in the mail, so i havent ventured under there to see how small the space is. Would a person with larger hands be able to employ pliers instead of small hands to be able to to get the job done? Thanks...

Wonderful picture off the knock sensor. You can most definitely do the job yourself with a #12 wrench. I scraped both hands pretty bad because the space in there is tight and there are many cutting edges and had to recruit the help of my 14 year old to finish the job (the promise of a hamburger and a chocolate shake did the trick).
Good luck.

That is because they want to remove the manifold to get at it. Which is time consuming and jacks up the labor price. Do it yourself and your fine.

I would take the manifold off anyway, that way you could give it a good cleaning, or if you have the money get it honed (SP?)

Replaced my Knock sensor this weekend. My roomate (FFxMax) has the wrists of a 14-year old girl so he was able to do the work for me, and it was still a tough fit. I think he came away with 1 scrape -- total install time was around 15 minutes.

The knock code on my ECU no longer reads out but the rear o2 sensor (0707) still pops up. I seem to have re-gained some power but the track will tell me if Im correct.

Here are some pics:

Dealer charges $200 for this?

does anyone have a picture of the tool(s) they used to remove the 12mm nut. I went out and bought all sorts of flex heads and full angled wrenches to try to get this damn thing out and blew over 3 hours with no luck. The space was too tight to fit anything in there, and once I finally did get the piece to fit over the bolt, there wasnt enough room to turn it! VERY frustrating...pics please

Yeah the hardest part is getting it started. One thing you could do is just get the 12mm wrench and get it over the retaining bolt. Then take a long screwdriver and brace it against the end of the wrench and push the screwdriver very hard (but be careful) and hopefully it will break loose and the rest is just a series of some very short turns.

i got mine for 135 shipped. its surprising they charge so much for such a small thing.

I tried to apply force by vertically pressing a screwdriver to the wrench, but there is no space to apply force to with the other hand below the upper hand. I couldnt just push on the top end of teh screwdriver...did anyone try using a socket wrench with an angled handle? if so, what kind? I'm really curious as to how to get this out now...since the manifold forms teh tip of a triangle as you move further up from where the KS is located, you get less and less room to turn a wrench.

Well said - that's exactly what I meant. Yeah, we had to push the top of the screw driver, that was the only way.

I have a question for you guys. I had my check engine light come on and I had it checked they said that it was one of the O2 sensors not switching right. Well he reset it and said that if it comes on again I should replace it. It hasnt come back on but should I still replace it?
