What is the VE30 engine?

Ok, so I was paying overly close attention to my Haynes manual last night, I always wondered why it covered 93-99 instead of 95-99 and I was poking around in the sections not intended for me and I noticed an engine designation Ihave never heard of before, VE30. I know my max has the VQ and max's still do, I know that the third gens have VG's and that the 300zx's had them in both SOHC (84-89) and Dohc (90-96) but what is this VE all about? Its designation makes me think its has different from a VQ or VG as those two are from each other. COuld someone enlighten me? I've searched for it and all that does is tell me it existed, could someone tell me its history? I thought I was a died in the wool nissan guy, but guess not.

VE30DE is the DOHC motor used in 92-94 Maxima SEs. The 89-91 SEs as well as all other 89-94 Maxima trims used the SOHC VG30E motor. The VE motor was basically the predecessor to the VQ30DE motor. It had a variable intake manifold and VTC variable intake camshaft timing. It was kind of a test bed for upcoming VQ technology (2000+ variable intake manifold and 2002+ CVTC continuously variable intake valve timing).

Thanks, do you happen to know where I can see some specs on it? The basics like hp/torque and other stuff?

190 hp 190 ftlb torque. All the info you could possibly want is in the Max FAQs.

That is where I first looked, I figured it would be in the specs/colors for the 3rd but alas, none of the gens buttons is a link. Is this something else that has been taken away due to abuse or whatever?
