FINALLY GOT THE DAMN Y-PIPE on...

ok... as you all know I had that big a s s post on my y-pipe shaking problem.
Well, Brian (Catts) took it back and he welded again and sent it back to me. I took it to the shop and put it on.
The thing was still touching the K-member of the car...
This meant that the car was going to shake like an old *** civic...
mechenic was nice enough to weld it and put it in.
He looked everywhere to see if anything eles was touching, and he found some other place touching... so he took it out again and welded it again.
now it's running fine.
All muffler shops should have a welding material so if you have the same problem as me, you guys should ask them to weld it for you.
Sending it back will take forever....

anyways.. enough complaint. The pipe is great!
I feel the more hp... especially when my AUTO changes gears... doesn't loose that much speed.
i love it!!

The y pipe shouldnt make a sound unless the flex section is bad, otherwise it might make your intake a little louder.

I have a Cattman pipe too, and my car shakes pretty bad as well. Could you tell me what it was like before and what it is like now?

Whenever I'm in P or R or D at low rpm's, i get a pretty bad vibration. When I'm higher up, there's nothing. I know with a y pipe there's gonna be a sound increase, but i definately wasn't expecting the big time vibrations. Was this your problem, or was it all the time no matter what speed/rpm you were at?

dude.. take your y-pipe off before it cracks with the k-member...
take it to the muffler shop and tell them it's touching something under your car...
you will see cracks on your y-pipe...
they need to heat that shiet up and bang it with the hammer so it doesn't touch anything
good luck

I constantly read posts like this about the Cattman Y-pipes, yet when someone posts which Y-pipe is better, I laways read that "Cattman is the highest quality". I don't get it. Nearly every post about a Y-pipe not fitting right is about the Cattman Y-pipe. Do a search and you'll see what I'm talking about. Until people stop buying his product, he won't change his inherently flawed design of putting the pipes too close to the engine cradle and using way too short of a flex section.

sorry, what's the k-member? I'll get underneath the car soon and see if it's touching something. I never thought it would be for that reason...Maybe I got too happy when Greg had the group deal and said "I wouldn't recommend any other y-pipe than Cattman's" or something like that. Oh well. We'll see.

I bought the cattman ypipe. I would not buy that piece of $hit again.......overpriced too......After I did my 5spd swap the rattle is not so bad because when I'm stopped the car is not in gear. But when I was stopped in my automatic the idle was nasty, everything vibrated......a droning sound....

I agree. I would not buy the Cattman Y-pipe were I to do it again. Sure, one can argue that maxima's are not all the same so you will have some fitment issues, but some defects will not fit ANY maxima. On mine, the 2nd flange had the wrong orientation. The muffler guy had to weld it back around. Sure I could have taken it back but that would have cost me more in both time and money. Being the most expensive pipe, you definitely should have better quality control. These aren't items you want to have to send back after the install is in progress.... Once installed, I have had no problems though: fast, quiet, no rattles.

Bringing this back from the dead. Cattman refuses to fix my ypipe b/c of grinding or excessive wear on the part that was rubbing on the frame. The pipe wasnt even on the car for a half a year. Truly disappointed.

cattman's pipes are very good. there are no fitment problems in the latest ones and I can assure you of that. I bought briguymax's cattman pipe and the install was a breeze with no fitment problems at all. if the pipe is making noise it's because the muffler shop didn't bend back the two heatguards that they should have.
