Questions About Double Pipe

sorry guys, i didn't know exactly what i was looking for so i couldn't do a search....

anyway, i see a lot of maxima's on this forum wit the double pipe's...looks real powerful and i'm interested in getting something like that, but does it add extra horsepower? how do u get a double pipe? like are u just changing the extension from the muffler? someone drop me some knowledge on this and how much it would cost...plus installation....thanks

P.S. is that the y-pipe making the double pipe?

I don't know exactly what you are asking, but I will go ahead and answer.

1) Coming out of the engine are two exhast manifolds, one in the front and one in the rear. The y-pipe is the actual pipe that combines these two manifolds into a single pipe. From this pipe is the catalytic converter, then the b-pipe, and then the muffler.

2) What you are asking by double pipe, I guess you mean dual exhaust. Craig Mack has done this. It really doesn't give you any HP gain, it just looks cool as hell and gives the Max a much more aggressive and sporty look to it. What he did was connect an extra pipe off of the b-pipe I think it is, and then routed this pipe to the drivers side of the car, took out a good bit of the spare wheel compartment, and put in another muffler there. If I am wrong on this please correct me people.

So, I hope I answered your question here. Good luck.

I think Craig's setup only has 1 muffler, a flowmaster. It's for a Camaro, so it has 2 outlets, and he just ran 2 pipes to each side of the car. Guys like 5literkiller, and MaxStilln have 2 mufflers, and that involves cutting out the spare tire well for clearance.
