Drive Axle replacement
Hello all,
This weekend I will be replacing my front-right drive axle on my 95 Max. I wanted to get all the required tools necessary to complete the job. Does anyone have the socket size (mm) needed to remove the lock nut to remove the wheel assembly? I could not find the size in my Haynes manual. Any suggestions and shortcuts would be greatly appreciated. Has anybody actually replaced the front-right axle? What sort of timeline should I expect in the swap out process. Thanks a lot. All you guys have helped me out in the past, and I truly appreciate it. With the help of other users, I have saved $$$ replacing my struts and fuel injectors without going to the dealership. Maxima.org I love this site, thank you all so much.

Ummm, if you have never done it before it might take you a while. I don't remember the size of tha lock nut because we took a large adjustable wrench to it and broke it loose. The thing that is gonna take you the longest is popping out the steering knuckle. I recommend getting a large rubber or metal hammer and hitting under that bar with all of your mite. I will eventually pop out. Then all you do once this is done is swing the whole rotor and brake assembly to the side and remove the drive axle. I have done this 3 times, twice on my right axle and once on my left side. You should have a 1-2 year warranty on these parts. Good luck.

If you go to autozone their axel is lifetime war. You will need a 10mm open end to get the 3 bolts off the the ring.. The big bolt is just about a 1.25" size.. (don't know for sure) but you will need a breaker bar to get it loose. As well DON'T beat on that thing.. As posted above because you can damage it.. They sell a tool called a tie rod puller.. there are 2 types.. one that is a lever and one that looks like a clamp device.. Use the clamp one..

No need to pull the tie rod... Just remove the two bolts from the top of the stearing knuckle from the lower strut mount. Easy as pie!
Be sure to break the hub bolt loose before you jack the car up.
Passanger side pulls out real easy after you remove the three 10mm bolts on the inner bracket.
Its also a good idea to change the seal on the trans while the axle is out..
