Alarms is this good

i was wondering if anyone had the FM-2001 Remote Auto Alarm Starter & Page FM-2001 from uscaraudio.com. its got some cool stuff like the remote with the lcd screen in it to see what is going on with your car. is this a good product or a $200 piece of crap that won't protect my MAX.

I dont want to sound ****, but if someone really wanted to steal your car, they would still do it no matter how much "security" you have. Take for example, my friend had a stock looking 92 or 93, not to sure, civic si hatchback with a b18c engine. He had a pretty damn good alarm system and used "The Club", but his car was still stolen, I'm not sure how the hell they knew that my friend had an engine swap. IMO, I think having an alarm gives you protection all in the mind, to a thief, it doesnt matter.

Friend of mine got it, won't comment on the price but it is great. Shows your car if someone parks and hits the bumper the alarm will not go off but your keychain will. Have some ****** sit on ur hood the key chain will tell you. It will give you a piece of mind.

I have that alarm. I think an alarm is useless unless you know whats going on, and this one does just that. Plus its got great range, and can't be beat for the price.

So this is a full alarm with Remote Start and keyless entry for $200?!?!? Am I reading that correct, or are those things addons you buy later?

Does it come with hood and trunk pins? If not, can you use generic ones or do you need theirs?

Did any of you who have this install it yourself? I've installed alarms before, but how hard is this one?

Is the LCD screen actually connecting to a camera inside the car?

Thanks,
IanS

1. Yes all that for $200.
2. Yes comes with pins
3. I installed it myself, but not the remote start cuz I have a 5spd. It's not that hard.
4.There is no camera, it's not that advanced. All it does is show your status with graphics. Like when you ard disarm, and what area is being violated.

And Keyless Entry?

how does it know what part of the car is being violated? Or do you just mean Interior/Trunk/Hood?

Or can it tell which part of the car was impacted by the shock sensors?

Yes keyless entry. It knows doors, prewarn, full shock sensor, hood, trunk.

soon these alarms will be useless

a friend of mine and myself are prototyping a new kind of alarm system that will/should be more effective than lojack. still in development stages. i cant say much about it still working on getting full patent. should be cheaper than a upper line viper alarm too.

Just how hard was the install mb1? I'm pretty good with wiring up electronics and such in the car... an alarm install is a little daunting though. I'm thinking of getting this alarm (or the compustar one - same alarm basically) and doing the install myself. I figure i'll just dedicate a whole day or two to it - that way I can do it right and avoid install fees. Can you comment on how hard it was?

Also, why didn't you install the remote start on your 5 spd? I know the compustar one (i think the same as this one) has 5 spd remote start capabilities.

If someone wanted your car, they'd take it... Do you think the chip protected benz's don't get stolen? Come on....

very true...

however, i still find value in a good alarm. if some amateur wants to break in and steal my tv and stereo, or go for a quick joyride...maybe they break the window and get scared at the alarm drawing attention to the car. It could be the difference between a broken window and $2000 worth of damage.. ya know?

This was my first alarm install, and it went pretty smoothly. I got the wire codes off the internet, and it was just a task of finding the wire, and tapping into it. The biggest problem was running the keyless entry wire into the driver door. I accomplished that with a metal rod and like 30ga wire. I also had to go pick up my gf right in the middle of the install, and the thing went off while I was driving down my neighborhood. I felt like an idiot. If you know car stereo stuff pretty well, deffinetely do this yourself and save the labor fees. The alarm I got was not compatible with remote start on 5spds. Maybee the newer versions are.
