Bumping noise under driver-side floor board...

When I make hard *right* turns, there is a bumping noise under the driver-side floor board, accompanied by what sounds like something rubbing against the rear driver-side tire/wheel. The harder I turn, the louder the noise is. (I do not get this bumping noise at all on hard left turns.) I poked my big Irish head under the car to see what could be causing the commotion, probing this and that for something loose, but I can't find an obvious culprit. Any ideas what it can be? Please advise. Thank you.
