300ZX clutch vs. ACT Stage II

300ZX clutch vs. ACT Stage II
Quote from Maximadriver.com....
As far as the clutch itself, swapping to a 300Z clutch over the Max disc might be particularly good. The 300Z clutch disc has THE STRONGEST (heavily emphasized THE STRONGEST) hub center of ANY 240mm disc. It's the same disc used for the 300HP 300ZTT, but cut down a bit to fit the 300Z NA's smaller flywheels/pressure plate. This, along with the 46% increase in pressure plate clamping force, should give us a pretty nice heavy duty clutch for our bad habits (track driving, drag racing, etc..) At a price tag of around $275 (for pressure plate, disc, and bearings) this makes it a good replacement choice.

I was wondering if anybody has done this type of swap, to get a stronger clutch and if they have what it consists of? I am looking for a stronger clutch for better quicker shifting, without paying the price for an ACT or Centerforce. If no one has done this I will be willing to be the guinea pig, as long as I hear that this is possible without too much modification.
Also one more question. I have a Nissan OEM clutch that has about 34000 miles on it and I was wondering how much longer it has. I personally have put about 12000 miles on it mostly highway, I hard on the clutch, I never clutch drop, but it is involved in the occasional hard shifting. The previous owner put the rest of the miles on and he "says" he never raced but I think that is BS, because I think my friend raced him before I bought it from him
.
Sorry about the long post, any help would be appreciated.

Don't waste your time and money. My buddy with a 99 Maxima did this because someone here also posted that this would be a good mod and that it was supposed to work.
Let me tell you first hand although the specs for both these clutches are the same the 300Z clutch does not fit the Maxima. He was screwed but had to make it fit since he already had the car ripped apart. Now his car runs but you can feel the clutch causing a slight vibration due to the clutch not sitting centered on the flywheel.

I've posted this before - the info is incorrect - he needs to change it.
The 300ZX non turbo (90-96) disc IS the same as the Maxima. The pressure plate is not. Both the NA Z and 89+ Maxima use a 240mm disc/pp. The 300ZX twin turbo uses a 250mm disc/pp. The twin turbo parts won't be a direct fit into the Maxima housing.

The thing you need to change with a clutch to truely make it hold better is the pressure plate...NOT the disc. The ACT clutch (which I have)is basically a modified STOCK pressure plate (to make it hold much better) and a modified stock disc. They cut down the marcel of the disk a little to make for quicker shifts. In doing this, the clutch engagement at lower rpms becomes a little rough...but entirely liveable.

i know three people with this set up.. Jay Lee, Nabil, Hiroshi.. this is the info i got from Jay.
if it doesnt work you gotta tell me these things. just shoot me an email. and i'll change it. but that's what they did. they used a STOCK 3Z NA disc with maxima pressure plate from ACT...

"It's the same disc used for the 300HP 300ZTT"
that's the part you need to change. The disc is for the non turbo Z, which is 10mm smaller than the twin turbo Z disc. Same goes for the pressure plate.
