Gear selector release broken
The gear selector release (not the O/D button, the big one) on my 1995 GLE isn't working correctly. Sometimes it just won't let me push it in. I haven't found out any real pattern to it, if I keep trying the button it will eventually let me push it in, but it takes a while.
I've tried parking with my parking brake, no parking brake, pointing uphill, pointing downhill, etc and can't find any real pattern in what makes it do this. Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.

The switch has two parts.. One on your brake pedal the other in the shifter area.. If you remove the panel covering your shifter assembly you can look down and see it in the upperr left corner.. If you merely unplug it you will be set.. I had this problem in my altima and it broke for real.. I unplugged it and went about my life.. Pushing the brake was sometimes annoying anyway.

How hard are these to replace if I decide to go that route?

So you think it's the brake interlock? I may try and disconnect it if the weather is decent this weekend and see if it makes a difference.
