5spd Tranny Leak

I have a problem with the tranny. Today I noticed that I'm leaking tranny fluid, and I'm positive on that. I haven't had a chance to look as to where its coming from. Its not a fast leak but it drips. I noticed it in my front drivers wheel well, its around the tire (similiar to when my strut busted and all the fluid came out). Do you have any idea what could be leaking? My guess would be where the driveshaft connects to the tranny? I have driven pretty hard but I didn't think it would mess up. Lets see, a few times i grinded the gears (let go of the clutch befor it got into gear), but didnt force them in. Just like touched the gears without the clutch without engaging them. Could this have messed it up?

Read my posting in the MAX FAQ's above. It should answer most of your questions if it is indeed leaking from the tranny where the shaft goes in.

If the wheel well is all gunked up with oil or grease, it's probably a bad CV boot. A transmission leak would just drip straight down and not be flung up in the wheel well.

I am positive that it is a transmission leak. The fluid leaking out is the same as the one i put in without a doubt. Its on the wheel well and on the bottom of the tranny dripping.

So, you're positive because it's the same color?? What color is the fluid in the CV joint? Wheel well splatter would also have me suspecting the axles, not the tranny.

Maybe it's running down the axel and spraying off in the wheel well as well. Check the CV joints to make sure you don't have 2 problems going on here. If the trans. is leaking, well.. you know the deal. Def. beaarings are gone. Tare it down and rebuild it. Make sure it's shimmed correctly when you rebuild it or it will distroy itself again.

I had the same thing. On my car it was the transmission position sensor leaking. $150 fix at dealer. I should have done it myself, but I felt lazy.

How do you make sure it is shimmed correctly?????
I know what a shim is, but how the heck do you measure the loads?

Smell the fluid. If it smells nasty it's gear oil.

Like someone else mentioned, hopefully it's that switch and not because of the bearings.

:(

Chances are that it is the ranny fluid.
I have a very similar problem as we speak.

I am at the mercy of my car and have no idea what to do now.
