Depends. You wont really notice a difference in daily driving, but at the track you will see a difference on paper.

Important if it needs replacement. If you're not getting a K/S code from the ECU, don't bother. You'll just be wasting your time & $.

Good point, I had just assumed mohfo had a malfunctioning KS.

If you havent got a KS code, ditto on what KWheelzSB said.

I felt mine in daily driving. when the engine was cold, it felt as if it was hesitating around 2000 RPMs. theres definately a lot more power now, and the gas usage seems a little better.

Anybody know if the bottom of the knock sensor (which is all metal) is what grounds the thing thru the bolt since theres only one wire giong into the sensor? Mine was all dirty underneath and I believe that may have lead to its malfunction. just a thought...

That's an interesting thought, the new KS had a flawless underside of flat metal and my old one had some rust and the metal was pretty worn.

I wonder how it got rust on it. It would seem like not much moisture gets down there.

Ha, EVERYTHING on my car has rust...well a lot of it does. I can't explain how agonizing it was installing the Y-Pipe (Exhaust Manifold bolts) and getting off some of the bolts when I installed new shocks and struts, not to mention I still can't get my front rotors off.

Did you reuse the same old bolts?

as far as my knowledge goes, Knock sensor helps in preventing engine knocks due to bad/lower grade gas and other reasons leading to premature ignition.Your ECU should retard/forward your ignition timing/spark advance based on the input from the knock sensor. Thus it provides your ECU with vital info which helps your car perform better.
my 2 cents!

take care,
jayanth

Also as someone in another thread said, it seems to prevent having other O2 sensors going out on you. So might as well change it before you gotta pay even more in the long run.
