Whats It Worth
Ok I found a 98 SE 5spd black on black w/every option available. The guy wants no less than 10,800 for it. The problem is that the car has 121,000 miles and about $1,000 worth of damage to it. What do you guys think? I know that maxiams are reliable...but by the time I sell it the resale will be ****. And no matter how reliable a car is....thats a lot of miles. What would be a reasonable price? Thanks.

geez, that seems a little high for a car with 125K miles. i would look for one with a little less miles on it. and your right, even the most reliable cars will start to have problems after so many miles. if not at 125K, maybe couple years down the road. if you really like this car, ask to see maintenance records. make sure all maintenance items were performed at the right intervals, i.e. oil change, 60k service, 90k, etc.
good luck!
btw, my family has 2 maximas, a '95 GLE and '96 GXE, both with approx. 90K miles. so far, not a single problem other then normal maintenance!

I agree the price seems a bit high. Sure, maxima's are great cars, but they get killed with resale value. Depending on where you're at, you'll be able to find all sorts of deals. I'm in the market for a 4th gen max, or at least will be in a few months, and I'm going to be willing to travel to get it. That's what it takes sometimes.
Check out autotrader.com and do an advanced sort for a 5-spd in your price range. I plan on traveling up to 150 miles to find the right max at the right price.
Based on what you've said about the car above, I would expect anywhere from $7500 to $9000 be a fair price for the SELLER depending on what kinds of damage are to the car. Hope this helps.

I paid 10k
I bought a 98 maxima se 5 spd. fully loaded, perfect condition. A family mans car. Not a single scratch or problem. Just wanted to share. I could probably resell it for about 12~13k but the problem is that if I can find a good of a deal again.
