removed passenger seat...heavier than I thought

I removed my passenger seat off my '96. It's a power leather seat, all it does not have is heat, don't need it down here. I did this because I'm going to the track this Saturday, every little bit helps right? Anyway, I weigh the passenger seat on my dad's commercial scale and it weigh about 40lbs. I think it's a bit heavier than 40lbs because I couldn't fit the whole seat on the scale, the scale wasn't big enough. So I think the seat is about 40-45lbs. I don't know if removing the passenger seat will make a difference at the track or not, but it couldn't hurt.

That is heavier than I thought, however I have cloth which I think weighs a little less. If the removal wasn't difficult it won't be a waste of time because apparently for every 100lbs lost in your car you lose .1 in the 1/4 mile. Now just take out that spare.

Nah, removing the seat was very easy. Just had to unplug one connector and loosen four bolts. It just look a bit weird though not having the pasenger seat there.

Thanks a million cumalot! I was wondering that myself. I too have a '96 with a leather power passenger seat. 40 lb, huh? That's great. Just so you know, here are a few more weights for you:

Horizontal rear seat: 10lb
Vertical rear seat: 20lb
Spare tire: 27lb
Jack: 3-4lb

I have thought about the passenger seat but figured it was too hard with powerseats and the seat track, etc. Glad to know it's not. And it goes right back with no probs either?

P.s. Weigh in this manner: weigh yourself. Weigh yourself holding the chair. Subtract to get the difference.

Good idea on holding car with on the scale, I just need someone to read it for me.

Yeah, the passenger seat was very easy to take out, pretty much straightforward too to put back in. I'm not the most mechanically incline, yet I could do it, so that got to tell you something.

Hm...I wonder should I take out the whole rear seat too, I might as well huh?

Update:

I just weigh myself holding the passenger seat with me on the scale. My sister read the weight for me and guess what? It's still 40LBS. So I guess the reading was right the first time around. I think I will take out the rear seats too. Nobody rides with me normally so I shouldn't have to worry about that. I just hope I will get a very good time if not, I would be a very unhappy camper.
