My car wil not start....please help

I jumped into my car and it will not turn over....I sat there and cranked it...its not the bat bc the engine almost catches but never does...if any one that has had this problem or any ideas could you please help. At first I thought that I had water in my gas line that froze so I put in that dry gas stuff and more gas(it was at about 1/4 a tank)..I need it to start so I can get home from school......

Is the starter turning over? If so, try turning the key to the "On" position for a few seconds to build fuel pressure, and then try to crank it.

If you have water in your gas and the outdoor temperature is below 0 degrees C then you have ice crystals to deal with. These are solid particles and will clog a fuel filter just like sand, brick dust, rust flakes, etc. will. Adding Dry Gas to the fuel tank may help in the long run, but it is probably not reaching the fuel filter.

Water-contaminated fuel is a possibility, but there are others to consider. Your fuel pump may be dead. Check your fuses and fusible links, especially the fuel pump fuse. Perhaps the problem is a spark problem, and not fuel-related.

Buy a can of Starting Fluid. This is ether (or equivalent) in a spray can. You will find this in K-mart, Wal*Mart, or any auto parts store. Expect to pay about US$2. Spray a five-second blast into the engine air intake. The Starting Fluid is a temporary substitute for fuel. If you engine starts readily, revs up, and then "dies" after two seconds, that is evidence that your no-start is fuel related. The use of Starting Fluid in this way is a diagnostic measure, not a corrective.
