Opinions on Tires...

I'm thinking of buying new tires for the 2001 5 spoke 16" rims that I just bought. What size tire should I put on them and what brand? I've done a search and people recommend either Kumho ECSTA Supra 712 or Bridgestone Potenza RE950. Which of these two would you guys think i should put on. Please give me personal opinions and experiences with both tires. Let me know how they performed (dry, wet, snow?).. how they lived up.. their treadlife... the noise and comfort level. I'm also thinking of getting wider tires. What size should I get? I went to the tire calculation page and from the stock size of 215/55/16 they said a 235/50/16 wouldnt throw off the speedometer that much... only 0.2% too fast, so if my speedo read 60 i would really be going 59.9mph. Is this size too wide for a maxima. I haven't been able to find the brigestone tires in this size or hardly any tires in this size really. What do you guys recommend in tire size and brand? Also Im going to drop my car pretty soon. B+G Springs and AGX shocks. Thats about 1.6 drop i beleive. I drive a '97 maxima. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Oh yeah for all you 16" ppl out there.. wut size tire to you guys ride on (excluding the stock size of course)?

First of all, I don't have either of the tires you are looking at, but I'm probably going to buy the Kumho's in 215/55/16 here pretty soon. I have the 99 SE rims which are 16x6.5, so I'm not sure how different they are from the 2001's (width wise). First, if those rims are 6.5" wide, then 235's are too wide for them; go with 225. If they are 7", then it's probably fine. Second, the Kumho's are Summer tires, so snow performance is nonexistent. Unless, of course, you like sliding all over the place . The Bridgestone's seem to be really popular as far as all-seasons go, and if I didn't have a dedicated set of winter tires, I would get them.

All that said, it sounds to me like you want at least *some* snow traction, so I would get the Bridgestone's. I hope that helps.

If you ever need to drive in snow, both of those tires would not work. Unless you have a deathwish.

If you need all season and like Bridgestone. Try RE940. If not, try Dunlp SP5000.

i have Dunlop SP5000s too, and I would not fully recommend them. I guess its mostly the fault of the dealer i bought them from since the middle wore out to "shot" status whilst the outsides are still only half done. the snow performance on these was good, as is dry performance. i was stuck keeping them on the entire winter...thats how i know this (plus, I live in Buffalo...so we see a lot of snow here). I also have a lot of vibrations over 70mph, and have come to the conclusion after 5 balances that these things were defective, and now the dealer refuses to fulfill warranty maneuvers on them.

I think im leaning more towards the kumhos now..since they're about $78 per tire. That seems pretty cheap to me, but any more info or these tires or any others would be appreciated.
