PVC valve

Ok, dumb question . Does the '97 Maxima have a PVC valve? If so, where is it located.

I think you mean PCV, not the stuff that's used to drain your toilet. It does have one, and it's not fun to get to. Do a search and you'll find the answer.

Yeah, a search will get you a pic of the location. I had my muffler shop replace mine because it's a pain. They said it took them 15 minutes of messing with it to get done. Only $10 though.

The PCV valve is located on the bank of cylinders closest to the firewall and on the drivers side of the engine. If you follow your intake plumbing into the engine; right after the Throttle Body, you'll see a hose that goes to the top of the valve cover closest to the intake stream. That is your valve. Most shops around me don't stock the PCV valve for our cars so you may want to check availability. Good luck. A search will probably yield you a picture if this doesn't do it for you.

Go here:

It's not difficult like others are saying. I replaced mine in 5 minutes (no exaggeration).

Do you think a bad pcv would cause a hart start?

My 96 GXE is California model. Maybe that's why it's got something above the PCV, making it even harder to take out. One time I tried pulling the hose out but it didn't seem to move any. I gave up.

I would think a hard start usually involves something other than a bad PCV valve. How many miles are on the car?

The car is 97 with 87,000 on it (wife's car).

It seems to have difficulty starting...when the temps are above 60. I check the fuel pressure 32 lbs.

I just running down the items to track it down.

If you turn the key on and wait 15 seconds...it will fire up fine. I just puzzled.

thanks

Turn the key and wait? I know something similar has already been discussed on this forum. You might want to do a search on hard starting. Also if that's the original PCV at 87k miles, i'd say go ahead and replace it even though it doesn't sound like the hard start problem.

Fuel pump maybe? Not pumping enough in time to the engine (causeing bad start) but when you give it time , like your 15 seconds it is getting enough in there since it will start when key is engaged, to turn over the engine.

Just a guess.

How about the fuel filter?? That's going to be one of the most over-looked/neglected maintenance items. It should be changed every 30K miles. I put in a 300Zx filter, about twice the size of the stock one. Nothing better in terms of performcance, but I can go for 60K miles now between changes.

How long is our PCV valve good for? In that writeup they recommend every 10K. I thought our was good for much longer than that anyhow. How often is the change interval for you guys? Also on the site that was listed it talks about how it also works as an anti-pollution device, could this help if changed to make up for our Ypipes before an inspection?

In our car, you don't ever have to change it. I changed mine anyways at 100K miles. When I compared the new to the old, the old one was still good, but the new one was just "springier" You test the PCV by blowing thru it. You should feel an oscillating sensation while the air's going thru it. If the PCV was defective, the air would just flow, or not flow, no osciallation.

Cool, I have an extra one anyhow so I will pop in the new one but nice to know that basicly once I do that then I am all set for quite some time with it.
