Is it possible to change ur own fuel filter...
It's very possible.
You can do it yourself.
It's just awkward to get to.
It's by the firewall.
I found it easier to get to from the bottom.
(After removing the top hose from the top).
It'll require that you pump your fuel lines dry first
by turning on the engine with the fuel pump fuse
out. So you run your engine until it dies from
lack of fuel. Then you can pull the filter out.
But still be ready cuz there's always some fuel that
remains in the lines.

ok my fellow maxima friends I have a question about this fuel filter thing. Some guys keep saying they have a problem replacing it or being in a bad position. I just did my filter this weekend and it took me about 20 minutes to do it. Can someone please tell me what the problem is that u guys are encountering because I don't seem to understand it. Are some Maximas harder to work on then others. About the price of the filter I paid $13.99 for it at my local dealership. Is that about what that filter costs cause I found that to be very cheap compared to my other car. Someone please fill me in on why there seems to be such a problem changing this filter. Thank you.
I agree -it is very easy to change. If I can do it, anyone can. Just don't freak out when you install, start car and it sputters for a couple seconds. It has to push fuel through the filter and fuel line to get to your Max's heart.

i have made 2 un successful attemps to change my fuel filter ,the darn hoses won't come of the gas lines .I have given up ,i am going to a mech . to do it for me
I considered cutting the lines but they were previously cut ,so they have no extra hose.
also my filter was $19 at the stealer

RYZ You know what your prob. might be if you can't get it off...
If you haven't already sent it in to the mechanic... here is what is probably going on.. You REALLY have to loosen up those two clamps, almost to the point where they come off... roll them up the hose a bit and the hoses will come off easy. I've changed two fuel filters already and it is pretty easy... just unscrewing the clamps is wierd..
You go boy don't give up. If u can't get it the first time try again. The next time u do this it will be a piece of cake. I had heard about someone saying that the Maximas with ABS had it a bit more difficult then the ones with out ABS before. I guess in this situation im glad that I don't have ABS.

A lot of people ridicule Consumer Reports for being too fuddy-duddy. There's some truth to that charge, but I like them anyway because they use objective scientific testing methods and TRY to separate fact from fiction. They routinely test cars, and occasionally test automotive-related items such as tires, motor oil, and motor oil additives. I don't recall that they've ever tested automotive filters.
Incidentally, Consumer Reports says Maxima reliability is excellent, but Nissan dealers are among the worst. How does that square with your own experiences?
BY GEORGE ...
I GOT IT .A little determination always helps ,also loosing up the clamps all the way helps a great deal too .Thanks for the encouragment guys would not have done without you.
