Launching?

How do you launch your MAX? I have auto, but hearing from 5spd people would be nice too. I've heard of stepping on the brake and revving the engine. In my mind, that must take years off the transmission's life, what do you guys think? JsL

to launch in a race.........turn off o/d........hit the brake and rev to around 1500RPM and then release the brake and gun!- this is the optimal launch RPM where u will have minimal wheel spin -search is yor buddy =)

yea,, thats a good idea,, also I was told that on an AT.. after you reach about 75-80mph,,, put the OD back on and you'll get a little boost.
I have not done either yet.. since all my races are at a moving start... but I dunno if the other peps wanted to race or not. but thank got I am not racing an Z28 or GT Moostang on a moving start .

i have a auto and i do that brake rev thing that was posted, however i also pump the gas after it accelerates, doing this feels like to me that the car gets higher rpms try it, dont hold ur foot done on the gas give it about 4 quick pumps and feel the difference.

leave o/d off until you hit the redline in 3rd gear, which should be at about 120MPH

You realize that "boost" is just the feeling of the OD kicking in ..... A car at WOT will not go into OD unless it has run out of gear....

So would it be better to turn off O/D for races like autocross?

To explain how it worked, I revved up to 1.5-2k with brake applied once the light turn green I half floored it and it pushed me into the seat(first time doing this, not expecting it) and I did get a good distance from the other cars at the light to 60, it was magnificant! No wheel spin, just instance LAUNCH!

And would that be bad for the transmission? To rev high and turn on the O/D? Thanks.

Doesn't this method kill the tranny? Hold the brake while you rev.

nah, it might put a little stress on your torque converter, but no more than flooring it from wot, i wouldn't think.

anyway, i have a 5 speed and i launch at about 2300-2500. it depends on the place i'm racing. i have a secret method for launching, though. maybe i'll enlighten you guys one day.

well you also can strain the motor mounts due to torque

but should not cost much to replace if it does.
