about to quit on Ypipe! help guys

..i dont think it is typical anyway. my mechanic couldnt put my y pipe on because of the reach involved and everything, plus no lift. so i forgave him and went to meineke. the guy looked at it, called me in, told me there was a problem, and pointed up. i said "precats." he went thru the "its illegal i could lose my license" thing and i said alright then.
then he pointed to my wsp pipe and said it could make my car run like crap, i need someone to clarify if you can what he meant, i only got pieces of it and didnt get it. he said something about- gases come out heated from precats, but without the precats, the o2 sensor reads______ and then the engine _____ blah blah MORE fuel, carbon on my spark plugs, pinging , knocking...whAT???
then he said the precats arent even a real problem with backpressure, freeflowing. he said i should let him make me a custom b pipe.
he says this car isnt meant to have that kinda stuff done because its so computer run, so many o2 sensors, its just not meant to be.
now im thinking of getting rid of this pipe! and im having second thoughts because of emissions problems!! someone help me before i quit on the y pipe! ...sorry it was so long guys

thanks.
does this mean, without the precats the o2 will read rich and cause a lean mixture?
what happens to everyone that has a y pipe? i dont get why it would seem bad if everyone has it already- i dont hear of a mass of problems from everyone. confused

WSP y-pipe install

Try our 1-866-801-9338 number. I am just checking in briefly to read my mail. Dallas and I have helped with LOTS of installs. He is probably home. Don't let those exhaust shop guys scare you off. The 3 O2 sensors will make sure your car is getting the right combo of gas/air. Hundreds of owners have done this mod. KEEP TRYING, the end result will be worth it.

My mechanic will throw it in for you. I am not sure how much he will charge you though. If you want, e-mail me and I will give you his #.

You should be able to find someone to install it for you. And being illegal, I don't think it is, since you're still retaining the Cat.

I've had my Y-pipe for about a year, and no problems so far. I just recently got my inspection and emissions done (in PA) and everything still passed well within legal limits.

The mechanic you went to has no clue what he is talking about. As long as your car engine is warm, you will pass emissions tests. And as far as him saying that getting rid of the pre-cats won't help performance, look at my sig and see what the Y-pipe alone did for me. A custom B-pipe like he wants to make you is good for like 4hp tops. Go to someone who has a clue what they are talking about.

The real reason for the trash talk is you bringing in aftermarket parts for him to install. Now he can only make some chump change on what amounts to a quick install. Of course he wants to do custom work. All muffler shops want to do it. Failing that, perhaps he will call it a "problem install" and eek out an extra 1/2 - 1 hour's work.

i know the gains i will get from putting this Y on are going to be awesome, it just scared me when he said that stuff about killing the spark plugs and blah blah pinging. can someone explain what the mechanic meant still? im a little uneasy even though everyone has this mod and its awesome. i dont doubt dan when he said that eventually itll work out, i guess the comp has to learn and everything will be fine?
thanks a lot guys

I have 123K miles on my car, its driven hard, raced, and driven daily to deliver pizza. I have never experienced knock/ping. I use 92octane minimum, usually 93. As far as spark plugs, my spark plugs are at least 60K miles old. I checked them about a month ago and they show perfect wear. They are old and worn, but it is normal ideal wear. No signs of leanness or richness.

dont listen to those damn meineke people, my buddy went in there because they said they would install it, the guy looked at the pipe said im not touching this it doesnt have any precats and he jumped in my buddies car peeled out and came flying around the corner in it. He was then yelling and cussing about how he had been a hot roder for 30 years and that the y-pipe was the most worthless pipe he has ever seen. WE proceeded to file a complaint to the meinike CEO and got a very long apology letter and phone call from him saying that his Manager was way out of line. Im just saying dont listen to them, they are bastards. Take Care

use a lot of CRC or WD-40. have the right tools. be patient. refer to www.maximadriver.com how-to section for instructions. they are very clear. it is the most satisfying power mod i put in. it also helps to have an extra pair of hands for assistance. good luck.
