About the monster flow
About the monster flow
I got this e-mail from brian catts about the monster flow and it sort of eased my mind on it. After reading this i'm going to stop asking for the k&n and just put the monster filter on. So i hope this helps the ones who were questioning their monster flow
Sorry for the delayed reply. Know the whole story and still want the K&N? OK... Can't get over some people's brand dedication. I haven't been very fond of K&Ns for quite a while, but I thought their shortcomings outweighed their disadvantages since there really wasn't anything else that was, on balance, better. My problem with them is that K&N's only work right once, although not exceptionally, with the original factory oiling. Do you know the whole story about the K&N? The first time they are cleaned, one or more of several things will inevitably happen:
the cotton felt will be disturbed in some way so there are small holes or thin spots, letting in oversize dust particulates
the oil will be applied too thinly, allowing too much dust in
the oil will be applied too thickly (more commonly the case), decreasing air flow and substantially increasing the carriage of petrochemical vapors and their deposition and carbonization on the MAF hotwire
the oil will be applied too thinly and too thickly (most likely) allowing excess dust passage and increased carbon deposition on the MAF wire
They K&Ns are low tech, and they are, for what you get, outrageously expensive. When they jacked up our prices between 15 and 20% (again) recently, we looked for a better deal. Found the MonsterFlow -- actually a little more expensive than the K&N -- but it was clearly superior in several respects and they don't keep raising their prices. Saw several of them at the national SE-R meet a couple of weekends ago and those owners were very pleased with them.
Anyway, I've got a couple of K&Ns left for occasions like this. I'll swap with you, but you have two choices. You can either send yours back, in new condition and packaging, and I will send the MonsterFlow as soon as its received and inspected, or we will charge you $40 for the MonsterFlow and credit that back when we receive the one you're sending in.
