The springs are the pieces of the suspension that lower your Maxima. The struts (shocks) are the pieces that dampen the force of the lowering springs. IF you get lowering springs, you will NEED new struts. I have the B&G and KYB AGX combo and I love the ride.

If you want to keep the stock ride height but upgrade your suspension for better handling your looking at new shocks and struts.

If you want to lower your car for appearance reasons, springs are needed and should be accompanied by new shocks and struts. Lowering your car will also give you even greater handling.

uhm guys either your not listening or im not explaining it well...

I want STOCK stuff, and i know there is a difference between the gle suspension and the se suspension, my question is, is it the springs that makes the difference, of the shocks that make the difference between the two.

It's defintely the struts/shocks. I believe the SE has electronically controlled suspension, someone correct me if I'm wrong. The rear springs are identical for SE and GLE I believe, but I'm not sure about the front springs.

Definitely not for a '98 SE, however I don't know about the newer models.
As for the springs they're stiffer on the SE. I test drove a GXE as well as an SE and you can feel the difference.
