Auto Meter Question???? (long)
Auto Meter Question???? (long)
hello everybody. I have a very quick question and I'm hoping that with all the expert knowlegde on this ".org" somebody can help me out. I just installed 2 autometer guages and the pod. I put the voltmeter and the mechanical oil pressure went in. I drive a 97 max. Here is my question... Where in the engine bay do you attach the little white hose to??? I managed to run the hose to the guage through the fire wall with not really any problems, but it looks like I only have about 4 ft of hose in the engine bay. One guy told me to purchase tee fittings (which i did) and he said that the hose should attach somewhere beside the oil filter. Do i have to lenghten the hose, or can I attach it someplace closer to the drivers side fire wall??
Any help would be great.

YOU HAVE TO EXTEND THE HOSE. IT INTO THE STOCK OIL PRESSURE SENDER UNIT LOCATE ON THE BACK SIDE OFF THE BLOCK. THE FITTING THAT AUTOMETER GAVE YOU WILL NOT WORK BECAUSE THE CAR USE A METRIC THREAD PATTERN AND THEY GIVE YOU A STANDARD THREAD PATTERN. GO TO AN AUTO PARTS STORE AND GET ON WITH A METRIC THREAD PATTERN.
I HAD THIS GUAGE INSTALLED IN MY CAR AND SOME HOW THE LINE BROKE AND THERE WAS OIL EVERY WERE. MY SUGGESTION IS TO GET AN ELECTRICAL OIL GUAGE THATS WHAT I DID.

Do not use mechanical ones for inside the car.
Get electric ones. Do a quick search and you should find the thread I posted not that long ago on the eletrical autometer oil pressure sender.
o.k. guys, I have purchased the MECHANICAL guage already. I don't need advise on which guage to purchase. It is installed allready. Thanks to MAXGTR96 for the info. I was just wondering how to attach it to the engine to make it work.

Uh, you're really not supposed to install mechanical gauges inside the car. That's why they make electrical gauges. If you insist on mounting mechanical gauges inside your passenger compartment, then be prepared to deal with the possible consequences: HOT and/or FLAMMABLE and/or POISONOUS engine fluids spurting on you and your passengers. You might want to consider buying a Nomex suit, eye protection, and a gas mask for your next wave of mods...
I'm not trying to be smart, or anything, but you seemed to fire off a testy reply to an earlier post on this. If you have mechanical gauges in place already, rip'em out of there, and replace'em. Why mount your safety devices in a potentially *very* unsafe location?

Don't you want the correct part? If you don't care, then do whatever you want. Good luck cleaing up dirty oil when you rupture a line. Or get in an accident and have 1000F worth of oil shooting at your face.
