OK, i;m at the poughkeepsie mini meet over here, and i go into the local duncan donuts.....when i come out, I looka t my maxz. All of a sudden the parking lights go on by themselves......I look at the back and the dash and all those lights are on as well, but not the headlights.... note: this is all occuring with the light switch on the "off" position. So, finally i take out a fuse "int ill", and the outside lights go off, but the dash lights stay on.....i could not remedy the problem. WHen i start driving home I notice the check engine light go on...so im thinking WOO HOO theres my problem. But when I check what the problem is "53" I get "Front Right Heated O2 sensor"... are these two related???? Can anyone think of why my lights would stay on, like in parking position without headlights on? thanks in advance

Damn man your check engine light went on after??? That sux. You didn't get the problem fixed in the parking lot after I left....darn ECUs

 

FOr those who read about this problem HERE was the answer....

i had my sunpro tachometer grounded to my instrument cluster...the wire was loose and touching other parts of the back of the cluster...after removing this wire, all of a sudden my lights started to work and my front right oxygen sensor CEL code was not popping up at all...and i did not reset the ecu either.....hmmm....

 

I had an almost identical sounding problem w/ my old '87 Legend Coupe. The problem turned out to be a fault in the light-control arm (I think it might be called combination-switch arm?). It's the arm that extends to the left from the steering column. It's also connected to the turn-signal switch.

It thought it was a faulty contact inside the arm & tried to get at it but the arm is all fused together & there's really no way of disassembling it. Since it was winter at the time & getting really dark at 5 pm (I'm in Toronto), I had get an OEM one super quick to replace it for obvious safety reasons. The whole combination-switch arm had to be replaced ($$$).
