Has anyone ever considered the SR20DET swap?

Has anyone ever considered the SR20DET swap?

I had always wondered this. Don't some of the Japanese Cefiros have the SR20DET? What about putting the SR20DET in the 4th gen? I'm sure the install would require a handful of parts and wiring, but this setup could easily push 300hp (400hp with some excellent tuning). It's a pretty cheap motor to source out, the parts aren't that expensive, and the motor is super strong. The lack of torque at part throttle driving would suck, but once you wrap it out, it would haul.

You could easily push 300 HP out of the VQ, and 400 HP with some serious tuning. Why spend the money and probably months if not years of time to put in a SR20 if you can do the same thing to your existing motor. And I think those Cefiros had a VQ25 engine. I dunno for sure though.

Who on the org. has a 300hp-400hp 4th gen at wheels? I believe I only heard of people putting down 250hp-270hp @ wheels.

No Flame intended, but probably less than 5 percent of maxima owners look at the .org-so asking who on the .org has put 300hp to the ground isn't really a fair way of finding out what a 4th gen can do. But if you want to know do a FWHP search and look at the numbers. I do believe someone is putting down 300+FWHP with the assistance of a S/C and small pulley plus a 100 wet shot. I think his name is david? I don't remember.

I think Y2KevSE is putting down 300+HP to the wheels w/his supercharger.

MardiGrasMax:
98 5spd
10psi 13.4 @105mph, 2.0-60' 311fwhp 264fwtq
Juicy Boost 13.4 @108mph, 2.0-60' 355fwhp 329fwtq

355.. I agree using the .org as a guide is not very accurate but that's a good example of a S/C w/NOS. Mardi said himself that 350 is about the limit on the stock internals I think. While the SR20DET has more options for stuff like that, it'd still probably be the same ballpark for price.

Turbo95Max has over 400HP, Nigel will have over 300HP hopefully when he's "Settled" Don Cooper has (had) 280HP at the wheels last time i heard. God knows what he's planning on. thats just a few who have 300+HP going for them.

the reason nobody has really given much thought to an SR20DET in a Maxima is because the Silvias they come out of (S14A or S14B for the newer ones) are rear wheel drive. actually, i think they all are. so there would be a hell of a lot of custom work when you could put that money into the maxima.

Only 13.4 ? I thought he had 13.4 before the variable intake manifold, and 13.4 w/ NOS? Whats with that?

Hmm a DET in a 3000lb car, it would be like driving a FWD DSM convert. Very sluggish off boost, not to mention the entire wire harness issue. It would be better to just import a VQ30DET and go from there.

I'm drunk and I can think of at least 6 people with more than 300hp to the wheels.

Only a 13.4, ehhhh....

13.6 before...

I got major traction issues!

The trap speed speaks the truth, 108mph.

Only a 13.4

just for the record, there are sr20det fwd's. cars like the primera and such came with them. i don't think it'd be that big of a power loss really. though it would have to work a bit harder obviously because of the added weight of the maxima, it'd also make the maxima a lighter car (a little bit at least). also, i know our automatic trannies are also used on the sentras, maybe even 5-spds are. i'm not for sure on that though. nonetheless, that'd be nice if we could even use the same tranny. all in all though, for the work you would go through for the swap, taking out your vq30, doing a full buildup and headwork, and adding some extra (or just any at all) boost, would definitely be a much more easily dealt with situation than doing the engine swap with a jdm engine... i firmly believe a vq35 would fit just dandy under the hood. if i had the $7,000 for the whole engine/tranny package from the factory, i'd put that under my hood instead. oh well, i'll just have to stick with smoking older 5.0's and 350's for now anyone wanna buy me a supercharger? lol

Now SE-Rs are a different animal, I have alot of respect for them. I love the SR20DE engine, I used to own a 240 with a SR20DET and it was the car I'll never shut up about

G20s are alot heavier than the SE-Rs, I've driven Primeras (the car the G20 is based off of in Asia) and they are slow, straight up, even with 5spds
