Y-pipe---> Making car Run Like Sh** !!! (0503)

Alright third day with my Y-pipe on and Im driving around all peicefull and my check engine light trips (0503, front 02 sensor) So I reset the engine light and my car is running like sh** now...Low idle and when I come to a stop it dips below and comes back up...I know my O2 sensors arent bad cause they were both replaced last year, but is it possible one is lose from the macanic or the macanic busted one...Please help..Whould a bad 02 sensor make the car run bad and why didnt it do it before I reset it

And when I fire up my car is goes to 1000K Rpms and dips all way down to like 400 then back up to reg idle...WTF

Make certain you reset the ecu correctly and turned it all the way back like the directions say...I did the same thing and that is how I fixed it. The first time I put it on I took the battery cable off over night..no code for like a month...then reset the ecu and did not completely turn the element all the way back.

I've owned my car for almost a year and a half and I have had the 0503 code since the day I bought it, and it has run perfectly. Runs better than most Max's with half the mileage actually (im at 123K now).

A 503 (O2 sensor) will cause your car to run in open loop mode the entire time and your gas mileage will be really bad. At least that was what happened when one of my O2 sensors went bad.

Bring it back to the place that intalled it and advise them that they f*cked up the install and broke one of your 02 sensors. Have them replace it or give them a bad name here on the shop and experiences section of the org. They caused your problem they should fix it, no excuses.

Yes, an O2 sensor can cause your car to run lik $HIT! I had the same problem when my y-pipe was originally installed. One of the O2 sensors was seized in the stock y and the mechanic had to force it out which stripped the threads. He replaced it with an aftermarket O2 sensor (big mistake). My car seemed alright for the first day, but after that I had all the problems you described and then some. I didn't know what to do so I took it to Nissan and they ran a diagnostic for me. They couldn't even figure out what was causing it and they blamed my mods and basically said I needed a whole new ECU. My timing was advanced by 6 degrees!

Anyway, it ended up being the O2 sensor. All I did was unplug the sensor at the connection in the engine compartment and the car ran FINE. The engine check light came on but the car wasn't running like crap anymore. I ended up getting a refund for the O2 sensor and got a genuine Nissan replacement (which I should have done in the first place). My problems were solved. So, I recommend that you disconnect the plug in the engine bay and see if that helps. Then you will know for sure if it's the O2 sensor. I advise NEVER replacing a sensor of any sort in our cars with an aftermarket part (I know this isn't the case in your situation, but just a good gewneral rule of thumb). I hope this helps!

1. No, I won't chill out.

2. HondaKiller718 and "bad name" are Synonymous.

3. Sounds like you did the install, man thats bad.

Yes I know it will make it run in open loop, and thus *supposedly* very rich. I've checked my plugs, which have actually been in there at LEAST 63K miles and they look perfect (perfect wear that is. they are worn, but don't look abnormal, so signs of richness.) My gas mileage works out to about 21.5 mpg and keep in mind that I deliver pizza in a metropolitan area, so its all stop and go city driving with yours truely Mr. Leadfoot behind the wheel. I think my gas mileage is right there with everyone else for city driving. On highway trips I can punch my gas mileage up to about 27mpg. I have no fouled cat odor, or rich black smoke or anything.
