300z vs. 95' Max??

300z vs. 95' Max??

My friend recently got his 300z and wants to do a drag race. He's a bit upset because he can't peel out in his auto, no matter how he accelerates. Then he drove my Max and peeled out well, now he wants to race.

How will my 95' Max (auto, no performance mods) do against a 300z (auto, no performance mods, no turbo)??

if you can drive, you can take it. the 300z has a similar motor with about the same hp, and is alot heavier. i used to eat them all the time with no mods whatsoever. of course, i have a 5 speed...

300ZX

I lost to a TT ZX but he was sprayin me with a 80 I think?. He ran a 13.2 vs. my 15.6.

It's a 91' 300z without turbo.
It's the luxury edition T-top. Very sweet looking and handling car.
Love the fact that it's a T-top.

It will be close, I also have a 91 300ZX, but mine is a 5 speed, and it can take my auto 98 max by about two cars.

The N/A auto 300ZX's were pretty slow, you will launch better than him, but I would expect him to catch up to you above 85 MPH.

Give it a try and post the outcome

Is there a 300z and a 300zx? Is the X a trim option? Just curious, and never asked.

I just raced a 93 300zx NA at the 1/8th last thursday. We both had horrible times. Given that if my clutch wasnt slipping I should have won.

95 Max
10.3 @ 69MPH (I know, I know its slow. Need new clutch!)

93 300zx NA
10.1 @ 68MPH

These times may not be relevant but to back it up a little, I saw another 300zx same model/year run the same time.

Also, I know normal Maxima's Trap speeds are a little higher in the MPH on average.

I think you should be able to pull on the 300zx. It would make a great race if both of you can drive though!

a stock auto NA Z does high 15s in the qtr mile. I haven't seen many (if any) auto Max break into the 15s (low to mid 16s).

The 2+2 Z's are slow especially with an automatic. I was at the track on Friday and one of the stock auto Zs was running 15.8s. The Z has 222hp, but weighs in at more than a Max. Just make sure you get a good launch

dam that sucks...i seriously thought 1991 300zx's stock would eat all maxima's 99 down stock easily but i guess it's only SOME of the sticks that are real fast....ah well....

Nope, they've *ALL* been "ZX" models ever since the 280ZX came out in like 1977 or so. The last "Z" model was the 280Z just before they started calling it the "ZX".

Except now, I think they're bringing back the "Z", cuz I believe the new 350 will not be called "ZX".

My god you should have no problem, those cars arent that fast heck back in 92 the Maxima SE surpased it in performance except the TT since its a TT who knows. A stock 95 puts down better 0-60's and 1/4 mile times than Normal 300z's do. With auto to auto you should walk it they are like 8.** to 60 the best I seen for the 5spd was 7.1 sec and they are very heavy much heavier than the MAX and you have more torque but its a TT once again. Comparing old mag numbers the MAx was quicker to 100 than it was as well.

Well they had the VG series of motors more similiar to the 89-94 Max engine.

auto v auto the Z should have no problems winning. I've seen numerous runs at the drag strip plus my own personal experience drag racing an auto NA Z (it's consistent in bracket racing )

I'm hoping you mean stock on the Max.

I've seen many Auto Max's do low 15's with NA Bolt on Mods....I think someone here actually hit High 14's recently.

And of course, boosted autos are the fastest cars on this board.

If an auto stock maxima is running mid 16's there's a serious problem with either the car or the driver. With good launches, there's no reason a stock auto shouldn't be running very low 16's (16.1 or so) consistently and high 15's occassionally. And with the right mods low 15's should be very possible (high 14's seems like a stretch NA, but what do I know?).

Yo, don't really know how an auto Max drives, but to tell you the truth, automatic NA Z's are absolute dogs. They're a joke. I imagine that since the Max weighs alot less, go for it. The last time I had a showdown with a Z was a newer 90's twin turbo (higher spoiler). We both had great launches, though he was ahead of me of course(can Maximas ever launch with authority?). Pretty much, I was on his rear fender all the way up to 75mph. We actually ran into a funeral service pack. Yes, he was trying- wheels chirped through three gears.
Don't underestimate Max's....I've got a mildly modded 5spd, and have hung in there with twin turbos and v8's very much respectedly.
