Aluminum Wheel Repair?? Help!
Aluminum Wheel Repair?? Help!
Hello,
Last summer right before it was time to put on my winter wheels, I hit a manhole cover while driving through a construction area. As a result, it bent the lip on my front passenger side Enkei RP05 18x7" Rim. What do you guys recommend I do? Should I buy a replacement? Is the tire still going to be ok to put on the new rim? Can I have it fixed or repaired? If so, I live in Niagara Falls, NY... Where can I have it repaired?
I know you guys are great at helping out fellow Max Enthusiasts (I've got 96 GXE), so I appreciate any of your help in advance!

it can be fixed
I know of a great wheel repair shop in Southern California. THey'll repair most dents, bends, dings, and curb rash for under $80. If you're missing a section of the wheel, it'll be more. I think you're wheels are relatively inexpensive through the tirerack or america's tires. I think they are on special for $120 or so.

I had mine fixed by Wheel Technologies here in Dallas. They fix wheels from all over the US. In by 9 and out by 5. They repolish, or paint and repair the wheel all for the same price no matter what is wrong.

Hope this helps.

The tire is trashed. . .dumpster material
Sidewall damage - Guaranteed. This can be non-visual: the tire may appear fine, but if you impacted something hard enough to bend the rim, there was also (no doubt) a catastrophic failure of the sidewall internals.
You should replace the tire. It will not be safe to run the damaged tire & you may have balance/vibration issues at highway speeds, even if a shop is able to get the wheel/tire combo "balanced."
As for the wheel, you'll have to do some price comparison on replace vs. repair to see which makes more sense for you.
Unless you have a quality repair place near you to avoid shipping, it's probably not going to be cost effective to have it repaired (if you can get a replacement for around $150 or so, as someone claimed)
Good luck!
