Over the last 6 months I have been getting less and less miles per tank. Exact same driving style and trips. The only mod I've added since was a budget y-pipe in january.
I used to consistently get between 340-380 miles per tank, or roughly 22mpg. Then I noticed my gas mileage started to go down a little every few weeks, and I was getting like 300 or even 280 miles per tank. I had the car checked out and everything was fine except for an O2 sensor which made the CEL come on and it was replaced.
When I filled up the tank yesterday with the usual 15.5 gallons of 91 octane, I only had 227 miles on the last tank! That comes out to like 14.6 mpg!WTF! This is very frustrating and expensive.
I removed my cone filter and reinstalled the stock intake box with a new paper element and I got back a lot of low end torque, and hopefully it might help with mileage.
Anyone have any idea on what could be wrong with my engine? The CEL hasn't come on and I have had a few tuneups and the mechanic says everything seems to be fine. I have done checks of the o2 sensors, knock sensor, intake temp sensor, maf sensor as instruced by the chilton manual. Any help would greatly appreciated. Thanks
Did you check your fuel filter and injectors? Also have you been using the A/C or heater?

O2 sensors? They can make you run rich.

Driving around with open windows increases drag, thus your car needs to use more power to keep up the speed. This will reduce your mpg.

if that car is in good shape, you should do it...you could sell yours for a couple thousand, and replace it with a 5-speed

Did you figure out the problem? I seem to be going through gas fast lately myself and curious if you figured it out?

where do you buy gas from

Its got to be those Mongrels who work for OPEC.

i had problems with this once, then i went crawling back to chevron and he redeemed me with my usual 400 miles on a tank.

DONT GO TO RACETRACK. stay away from those kinds of places.

Check your tire pressure, alignment, and fuel filter. I had my tranny replaced a while back and Nissan didn't tighten the fuel filter line they disconnected when they were done. It would only leak when I really got on the gas, but it still sapped my milage. I also just got an alignment and that added about 25 miles per tank. Low tire pressure will suck it down too. Good luck.

Do you have stock or aftermarket rims? I just got some 17"
and I have started to notice less mpg also. I kind of chalked it up to the new rims and tires because they were a little taller than the stocks I took off. I don't know, it is terribly concerning though.

ya gotta check weight of your rims. If they are heavier than your old stock setup, it'll drain your mpg a lot!
